Rider report: Muzzy quiet pipe install
My Muzzy pipe came in the other day. Ordered SS headers, CF can with quiet baffle (any wonder? Stealthin').

Looks like you can order the 'quiet' packing for any pipe - will have to verify.
You can see here the extra tube near the exit port of the can. On 'regular' Muzzys all you can see is mesh from the exit tube on the inside.

Install was pretty straightforward - header was all one piece. Exhaust assembly had three pieces: Header, mid pipe, can.
Not many welds to sit there and admire.

Unfortunately, the can had a scratch on the label, but Muzzys has that situation fixed. No problem.
I wound up taking off the radiator despite claims on this board and in instructions (yes, I did review them) that it isn't needed. I just didn't see how I'd have enough room there to manuver. Putting the radiator back on involved much contortions and cussing to get it right. Hopefully *if* I ever have to do that again it won't be such a big deal because now I know what the hell I'm doing.
Weight: Stock pipe - 25 lbs.
Muzzy SS header with CF can - 12 lbs.
Sound: A little louder than 'stock' can that I had 'modified' with removing Catalyst and also punched a couple of holes in the last baffle. Also, with my doings to turn said stock pipe into a crack pipe with torch, I probably burned some of the packing so it was a lot louder than when new.
Much quieter than the other Muzzy's I've heard, but in my mind the note and sound are the same - just much less.
Idle - a nice burble with a raspy note.
Cruising speed - loud enough to hear exhaust, but that's not all you hear. You still hear the wind, mostly.
Full song - Still has nice Muzzy note to it. Although you definately know you have an aftermarket system, you still get to hear the intake working and the sound of the engine revving as well. On Elk's bike the exhaust is ALL you hear.
Riding - The ass dyno does pick up a difference. Seems also the weight loss is noticable on bike as well. There is a MAJOR flat spot at @2.5k rpm but once the bike is past that it's all okay. Keep in mind my PC is being repaired at the moment so this is with the stock ECU.
Verdict - so far a happy customer. We'll see what's up with quiet baffle when it's Dyno time. I know I'll lose a couple of HP up top due to baffle. It's reported it's 'not much' but we'll see. So far I think the quiet baffle is nice and doesn't take away from that nice note we all like to hear. Plus, presumably I don't frighten small children and hopefully won't gather attention of the fine boys in blue.

I do have a question for the peanut gallery. The can has a small leak on the underside where the can meets the mid pipe there at the joint. Is that normal? Specifically, it leakes right at the gap in the bolt hole.
Is that an indication that the can isn't aligned on the mid pipe?

Unbolt the Muffler and slide it off. I would also take off the "S" Pipe and coat the inside with Ultra High Temp Cooper silicone and put the parts back togetherstart the bike up and let it get a few heat cycles at not high temp to cure. Nice to see the "Rolled" Tip on the can end.

The pipe looks good, how is the clearance and have you dyno'd the bike stock so you can compare with the Muzzys?

The other 12 I picked up at DG-5 has a muzzy carbon can on it and I like it. I still prefer my bike with the akropovic on it though, cause it is very quiet.I had the sidewinder on it and really enjoyed riding it on the road (especially when passing assholes talking on cell phones instead of driving) but JohnQlaw listens too much and I was certainly headed for trouble so I guess the sidewinder will be just for the track. Muzzy does make good products!

We dybo'd one 12 with the quiet baffle. It was pretty damn close to the other Muzzy pipes we tested on stock 12's. About 3.5 of hp down, but that could have been the bike itself. Sounded pretty good and was definitely not obnoxious like some can be.

Ugh...the only thing I dont like is the "pinch" bolt assembly. I think the spring fastners look much cleaner. Just keep the pinch are lubed well.
Nice setup though! (nice wheels too. )

yeah, I got 'em from some Florida cracker. Middle of the tires we all worn down from burn outs and shit, and there were chicken strips that'd make Colonel Sanders proud.
And, no. No stock Dyno numbers. When I had the window to do that the place was closed. And then when my pipe came in I just couldn't wait to put it on.
