Ninjaman , Girlfriend , & Lil' Red vs. A 90 lb. Dog.....

Yep, you're figuring correctly if you're thinking I ran over a dog. Whew!!!!!

We were out on a great ride today with Big Mike, and my buddy Steve who just recently bought a ZRX1200. We went into a lefthand sweeper and the dog ran right at Big Mike and totally paid no attention to the fact there was another bike coming. I was 3 to 4 bike lengths behind Mike and running about 75 mph. All I could do was ride it out, I knew any sudden input might really upset the bike because I was going to be nailing the dog broadside at the same instant. I just let off the gas and gripped the bars lightly and WHAM!!!!!! A little tankslap as the dog went around the front wheel and went down the left side of the bike. Nothing too scary, but what bothered me was that I had my girlfriend on the back and I couldn't help but to think what it the dog had went under the front wheel???? I pulled over to the side to inspect the damage. I will have to replace the winglet and the lower and that's it. Everything else looks fine. I really feel lucky that we didn't go down, the dog was an easy 90 lbs. Fido got a broken leg outta the deal and was very scared. I hate to see an animal in pain, but better the dog than us. I am glad I didn't panic and try to make some manuver that would have more than likely made things much worse.

I went to the house to see the dogs owner and tell him what happend and he was very cooperative. We exchanged information and he told me he'd contact his insurance agent monday morning. I took the bike to the dealership and got an estimate. Those fuckers are smoking the good shit, $722 including labor. ($66 an Hour, put 2 hrs. down on estimate) The parts that are on the estimate are a lower. wing, 2 screws, and a decal. Note that I only did this for the insurance company. I will fix the bike myself. I will get the parts either from Zach @ Alcoa, or Ron Ayers.

I hate to see Lil' Red banged up, but once again I feel fortunate to be sitting here typing. Much better than being in the ER, or seeing my girl in the ER,......or worse.

I'm also hoping that the incident doesn't scare my girlfriend (Gina) from riding. She was a little shook up, and rightly so. But she says she's ok. I hope so, we have had a blast riding this year and I hope it stays that way.I'll post some pics of Lil' Red in a few.

GUYS WATCH OUT FOR THE CRITTERS!!!!!!!!!

Ouch............

Not bad all things considered.........

The lower got a couple of pretty nasty scratches where the wing pivoted around. I guess the edge of the wing and the screwhead did that. They're not visable in these pics. If the screw hadn't pulled through the lower and busted it like it did I'd have just bought a wing and been done with it. But that isn't the case. Still very minor considering how big the dog was.

You can see where the screw dug in here. The original pics are much clearer.

If you only knew. Got the right wing, mirror, clutch cover and footpeg whilst doing a combination stoppie/tail whip last winter. I still have not figured out WTF I was thinking. Had a MAJOR hangover, I knew better than to be on the bike.

Lil' Red has had her wings clipped twice in the span of about 6 1/2 months. Bummer for sure, but you play, you pay. I'm just glad that in both cases there were no injuries. In the big scheme of things that's all that matters.

True, any trip that you can walk away from is a GOOD trip!! I'm restoring my old 1980 CB-750f - it met a minivan (with me on it) and was not so lucky . Good news is that I kept it and my GF is helping me restore it so she can ride with me!! sometimes bad things eventually turn good!

Glad you are okay. You know, maybe if Bart was in front of you that giant sucking sound his mouth makes would have drawn the canine closer to him, thereby allowing you to completely avoid said canine.

Rick, glad you came out OK. BTW there's a bunch of red bodywork on ebay right now.

....And glad to see Big Mike finally saw the light and tossed that Fizzy for another Rex. Maybe there is hope for that boy afterall.

Thanks Fellas.

freek, I leave the animal lovin' to Bart. He seems to excel at it.

Scooter, Actually Big Mike still has the Fizzy. My buddy Steve has a new ZRX1200, the blue one. It's a nice bike, very fun to ride. I rode it some yesterday before the deal with the dog. Maybe Mike will see the light some day though.

Damn Rick, glad you and Gina are OK. You did the right thing though. Many people here in Michigan DIE every year because they take drastic measures to avoid a deer or dog impact in their car and then crash horribly. They should have just hit the animal.

Glad your OK man.....

And where is that Red body work on e-bay Scooter. I stuill haven't heard back from Brian on his.

Hey Otis......

Just a thought, you need RH plastic, and I need LH plastic. Maybe we can get good deal on a set on ebay and split the cost??? I know that the insurance will buy new stuff, but if I can get plastic that is in good shape I don't mind putting used stuff on the bike. After all Lil' Red isn't new anymore, but she is still in A1 shape. I could pocket the extra loot, or use it to pay my fines and court cost for the speeding ticket I got yesterday.

I HAVE GOT TO GET A FRIGGIN' RADAR DETECTOR/LASER JAMMER/WTF EVER TO ATLEAST GIMME A FIGHTIN' CHANCE WITH THESE GODDAMNED TROOPERS!!!!!!!!!!!

ebay

Otis,
Just looked at what was available on ebay. I'd consider it junk, not what I'd wanna run on Lil' Red. I've already priced the stuff I need @ Ron Ayers, and for around $350 I can put new parts on. Very cheap when you look at the prices on the estimate I got from the dealership.
