Garmin Rules
I try to post the good stuff as much os the bad stuff and this is a personal experience of very good service and support.
I have a Garmin Etrex Vista (as most of you have seen) that developed a few issues. I bought the unit over two years ago and figured some of it was "normal" wear. Basically sticky buttons and a line dropped on the display.
I sent an email to Garmin support describing the problem and asked what could be done about it. They sent me an RMA via email and I sent them the unit 2 day priority mail and it arrived at their location on the afternoon of the 19th. On the 21st they sent the unit back Airborne 2 day to me and it arrived on the 23rd.
Inside the box was a repair note confirming the problems I was having and a listing of the repairs that had been performed. The unit works like it's new again. One day turnaround for repair and NO CHARGE !!
Great product backed by great service, above and beyond what would be expected. When asked what GPS to buy I have always recommended Garmin. This reaffirms my support.
Thanks Garmin !

Way cool. Never had any probs with my Garmin 176C, but nice to know that the support is there if I need it.

Few times do really good service and support get noticed. Most people, when a vendor goes out of their way, don't recognize it and come to expect it.
When I'm shopping for GPS sounds like it's a Garmin for me!

SERVICE!
I can't speak for those "other guys", but I can tell you that Garmin's is second to none. Period. I would have bought a GPS V to replace my broken old GPS III. I had already sent it back 2 years eariler. That time, 2 years past it's warranty, they fixed it for no charge. They even had replaced the button pad, which I had not requested.
This time, the battery door on the case broke off. They said that since I had "problems with it before" (yeah, two years ago), they would just chage half of the normal repair fee of $95. In less the 2 weeks from the time I sent it to them, I got it back.
Man, that new case made it look brand new. HEY! Wait a minute...IT IS A NEW ONE! Okay, since they don't sell the GPS III anymore (it's the GPS III Plus GPS V), it's a "refurbished" GPSIII. So after almost 5 years and $50, I basically got a new GPS. At this rate, I'll never get a chance to "upgrade".
So now I've been a Garmin customer for over SIX YEARS. Not only do I use it on my bike, but when I take trips in the truck, I just hook it up to the laptop and run it through the mapping software. It will work with any GPS receptive program.
