Wussing out (a little off topic)
Ok guys... I have begun my 1980 Honda CB-750F rebuild project . The FIRST thing I really need to do is rebuild the carbs. Well, I pulled em off with no problem, but I'm staring at them now, and they look REALLY complicated. In fact, I've never re-built a carb before. This may not be the best time to start. Does anyone know or can anyone suggest a good place to send my carbs off to for a full (and professional) rebuild?

imho, its not as bad as it looks. i rebuilt the carbs on my datsun, 2 totally different sets of styles in fact, with nothing buthte instructions that came with the cheap rebuild kit. lots of parts, but u just take em apart one at a time & put em back together in teh same way, not big deal. just like building lego sets... when u were a kid, of course. not that i still play with lego NOW. no, of course not *cough*. i have to go now...

hmm... maybe... I'm just scared that I'll "forget" to take some of the parts out when I bath the carbs in carb cleaner (the gunk bucket type cleaner) and I will mess everything up....

A service manual (even a .... UGH... Clymer) would be recommended before taking every little screw, jet and spring off. If ya got a diagram of it, have at it! It's not like ya gotta have it all back together before Tuesday.
Just make sure you got some kind of container (plastic box, empty peanut can, etc.) that you can put a lid on, to hold all the little parts while your not working on them. It really sucks lookin' for some little spring you know was there, sittin' on you bench, when you left it ... a week ago.
Also inspect all the jets REAL CLOSE. Those little holes might not looked clogged, but anything (like caked up old gas) that restricts them in even the slightest way, will make the bike run like shit. Even worse, you'll go crazy trying to figure out what the problem is. As for all those vacuum and overflow hoses... just replace 'em all. A leaky hose will equally drive you crazy.
If you don't have a service manual, until you get one, you might want to check out this site's old microfiche collection.

BTW - have fun syncronizing them after they're all back together.

Hey WOW thanks Redelk !!! I figure maybe I'll try it - let em sit in the Gunk can for a week or so - that should remove all the crap

Deathpulse,
Gunk probably won't work, no matter how long you leave it soaking.
Alternatively, get them all in an ultrasonic cleaning bath. If the settings were OK originally, they still will be. And with all the crap gone, you'll be back to as-new. Should be very cheap too. Make sure they use volatile solvent, not petrol or diesel.
