18 tooth versus 17 tooth
I'd like some input on the 17 tooth front sproket mod.
I have a friend with a 18 on a 2000 and mine a 17 on a 2001.
Both 12's are stock except pipe,pc,& advancer.
we both weigh about the same.
we constantly drag race and unless one of us slips up somehow,somewhere,or one of us is feeling a little better that day, the race is always about deadeven up to about 170-175.
If we run past 170 the 18 starts to pull away from me "slowly" at around 175.of course his top speed is more than mine.
our max top out with these sprokets on these bikes is:
i top out at 185.4,he tops out at 192.7.-both speeds were gotten from my gps.
of course we all know the 17 drop decreases top speed.
i'm just curious if anyone has done back to back runs using a 17 versus 18 tooth.is the 17 faster in the 1/4 mile with anyone else?does anyone like to keep the 18 on?

try switching gears between the two bikes and running again, that will give you a bunch of onfo on how the bikes run

18 gives a 3 gear 1/4, and 17 a 4 gear 1/4. I do MUCH better with 17. You need to match the rear sprocket so you cross the finish line at 11k or better to get the most outa the hp curve

I do much better with a 17 at the dragstrip.

17/51 works for us...
We see a noticable diff. in the 330' times (which carries through the 1/4) geared like this...

17/51 worked for me for stock & 1361;
17/50 worked for 1375 w/nutec;
17/49 is my current set up w/1427 on nutec.
Even with my fat ass, i kept running outa rpm in 5th as hp/mph went up
