If memory serves me right Blitz has stated for some time that he has a High Altitude ECU in his 2000 12R.... I don't claim to know other than what he has posted in the past on more than one thread. He's fairly well respected as being a no bull shitter..

In my first 12 I got one from the importer after complaining high altitude behaviour. Now I have flashed normal ECU. Haven't though seen any H-A version codes so don't know what's the difference...

I know Blitz personally and I can vouch for him he's not a Bull Shitter about that sort of thing or much of anything else that I know of. If he says he swapped out his ECU than he swapped it out. Why Doug wouldn't know of this since we all know he was working at Muzzy back during the 12R prototype days and has probably been witness to more 12R information that most anyone else besides the KHI in Japan than anyone else besides Rob himself since at that point Muzzy was involved deep with Kawasaki from what I can tell from reading history. I'm 100% positive Bob had a different ECU for no other reason than he told me he did and he wouldn't lie about something like that for no reason.

A "High Altitude cpu"? You do realize that the stock cpu/ecu measures the barometric pressure (altitude) and adjusts accordingly, right?
High Altitude ECU is stored in the same location as the 50 yards of flightline, the 5 gallon buckets of propwash, the muffler bearings, and the left handed monkey wrenches.
You think that air pressure sensor mounted on the subframe is for show?

YOU ARE 100% WRONG in this case....... These ECU's operate only in OPEN LOOP never CLOSED LOOP .... If that doesn't make sense to you read a little further and find out the difference in the two operating modes are it will all form a better picture for you then smart guy..

Of course the "normal" or original ECU also accounted for the altitude, but it turned out to be (probably because lack of testing, etc.) that the bike didn't work very well in high altitudes. But because majority of bike never go to the mountains Kawasaki didn't change the ECU unless you asked for it because in normal driving you didn't notice any flaws. So the term High altitude ECU only has different map inside the ECU than the original. Probably the original was a little bit too rich or lean and with the new ECU they fixed the map error.
After my ECU was changed I think it also had a better map otherwice as it feeled a little bit smoother also near sea-level. The H-A ECU was only for year '00 so probably the latere ECU's allready had the fixed map inside them. The H-A ECU had different number than the normal but don't remember it out of my head now but can look my files...
And R2L: you don't need any special high$ ECU to make it adjustable. You can hack to you're original ECU and change the maps inside ECU after little bit of hacking... Look at the Ridgeracers ECU thread (search for one ECU hacked at ...)
So the ECU did exist and if my friend ever sells my old ZX12 my plan is to change the ECU for my spare one and then hack in to the H-A version some day to see what was the difference...

I suggest a lot more studying about EFI systems before you display your ignorance again.
Do you even have a clue what "Open Loop" and "Closed Loop" mean? I'll give you a hint, to run "Closed Loop" requires an O2 sensor. I could explain to you how the EFI systems work, and how there are three main types, Speed Density, MAF, and Alpha N, and the differences between them.
Or I could explain to you how I do data logging on my cell phone, and can sit 20 feet from my bike and tune it from my laptop wirelessly, but chances are I'd be wasting my time.
Because Kawasaki screwed up the software in the first ECU, and created a replacement for anyone that complained, does not make it a "High Alltitude ECU". If you're an average person that has no knowledge of how EFI works, then I can understand how you might call it by that name, but it doesn't make is so.

The ECU was only made available to customers that lived in High Altitude areas of the world, I DID NOT name the ECU Kawasaki named it .. With that said the reason it's called a High Altitude ECU is because the OEM that supplied it SAID IT WAS! It was nothing more than an ECU with a different set of maps but Kawasaki OEM decided to give it a name because that's the problem it existed to solve. No different that when you where a child and your father called you a fucking idiot. You were his creation and being that he had the right to name you whatever he seen fit that would make identifying which of his kids your mother was referring to when he got home each evening.. I see why he named you what he did. Clearly he seen the future for you.
You you seriously PICKED THE WRONG DUDE COCK SUCKER! Read the post above POSTED BY A CUSTOMER THAT HAS A HIGH ALTITUDE ECU!
Now go fuck yourself prick! You aren't wrong about how an ECU works in CLOSED LOOP! So you either need to prove how the 2000 ZX12R operates in both open and closed loop or go fuck yourself you have been proven 100% WRONG AND YET YOU STILL BABBLE like some stupid cunt arguing to hear her stupid face make noise... There's NOTHING more you can do or say to REFUTE THE PART NUMBER listed above by a man that actually has purchased one of the ECU's in question... Bla Bla Bla......

I'm not hard to find mouth take your 20 post which by the way should indicate you listening NOT speaking to people you have no clue about and do your best to learn. You are a typical idiot that thinks everything you have read applies to EVERYTHING on the planet... Nothing you have spoke of applies to a ZX12R ECU especially a 2000 Model A1 ZX12R that had a factory High Altitude ECU as NAMED and offered by Kawasaki. Even after having owners with the mystical part on their bike list the part number your mouth still ran like a sewer. People like YOU waste time and spread incorrect information. The only person in this thread that's dumber than you is Doug Meyer since he worked at Muzzy during not only the release but the development of the 12R and was involved in Pre-Production bikes and parts. Him spreading incorrect information is a disgrace. I make it my calling to bust his ass every time he spews garbage from his lipes. He's a no one anymore left over has been that thinks because he's buddies with other has been's he's still active and informative. Though you and him both spew airplane BS on a bike board so you both have something more than being stupid about the topic at hand in common. I'm very easy to find sine I've traveled all over the US and Canada meeting people from this and other bike boards. I'm located in Knoxville, TN come see how tough my keyboard is big man. You got this whole topic WRONG you injected information about systems that aren't relative to the topic into the topic and argued that you were right even after being proved wrong multiple time including a part number. Notice how Doug was smart enough to shut his mouth as he knew further spewing would result in a public spanking yet again. He claims it's not personal yet he was a tough big mouth man when he thought I couldn't post here. He and I will stand toe to toe one day and explain a few remarks. A smart person would realize someone with over 5000 post count on any site has been there for awhile for a reason. The reason here is I know Kawasaki's inside and out and the 12R,10R, ZX11, I know intimately as far as all there systems are concerned. I own all the above mentioned and well as every Z1, KZ, GPz Big Bore Kawasaki ever produced. Kawasaki Calls me when they need hard to find parts because I have them all especially the hard to find stuff I just don't sell any of it unless I know and like a person.
You proved you know nothing of the systems actually used on these bikes. All you proved is you know how to use a search engine and read about what's out there. Let's talk suspension and let you tell us all about how these have active suspension like a late model Cadillac. Applying systems information to models that never had it and never will unless upgraded ( ah like my Motec upgraded 12R ) Which by the way has all the capabilities you spoke of and a lot more but that's a different story and a different topic all together. You think some one with a 20 post count which nearly 1/2 of that is in this thread where you have been 100% WRONG about everything you have had to say. Motorcycles do not fall under the ODB II standards like the majority of cars built today. Again you should read a little further next time you think you're going to look like you know what you're talking about against someone that knows EXACTLY what they are talking about. May I suggest you read the entire thread started by RidgeRacer in this forum titled " Hacking the world one ECU at a time or something along those lines. It's old and filled with very useful information about EXACTLY how a ZX12R ECU actually works and how those sensors you spoke of relate to the ZX12R ECU WHICH IS ALL WE ARE DISCUSSING HERE .... We are NOT discussing how engine management works on the every other engine in the world as you think is relative here and it's NOT!
What you should have done before starting with the muffler bearings and the Bla, Bla about your smart phone is STF up and realize you were and still are 100% WRONG and learn from that point forward not continued to shoot off your mouth like you did.. What's happening here is YOU are being told there's no time for someone like you with useless information trying to pass it along world wide to confuse others that don't know but are here to learn. I have ZERO tolerance for people like you and I'll school you every time you are wrong and insist you aren't.... As for me being a no one on this or anyn other site check the 14 section where I just repaired a members Titanium header and saved him a ton of cash and done it in a very rapid time. I walk the walk not just talk the talk. This isn't the only forum I'm a member on and I've helped countless others for the last 10 years now and counting . What have you done EXACTLY for anyone besides spread useless information? AS I THOUGHT NOTHING! How about you tell us all where Kawasaki took the power away from the original 2000 ZX12R smart guy since you know where it took place. There's but one member here possibly two that were privileged to that knowledge straight from Kawasaki and they have YET to help one single member with that yet and it's 13 years later and they come here like they are good guys that are here to help people. One of those 2 posted here in this thread and knows his name. He's a hell of a guy here to also spread false information with his DON'T EXIST remarks. I hate a liar and I'll stand my ground against a liar every time until they are finally exposed and expelled. When it comes to these bikes and their systems you are not my equal if this thread is any indication of of what you know pertaining to these systems.
You would be fired if you were a mechanic and were caught trying to apply technology to a system that the engine you're trying to fix doesn't even have. Only an idiot would do that. Again you and your kind have been around these boards for years. You think because you read something in a book somewhere it applies to everything. Even after being proven wrong you argue just because Kawasaki admitted they needed to offer an ECU to help the High Altitude customers that don't make it a High Altitude ECU. If you knew anything thing at all you would know most things in this world get named for no other reason other than their intended use or purpose and this is one of those situations. It may in fact be called the OPPS we fucked up ECU to the engineers at Kawasaki Japan but to Americans they were called the High Altitude ECU. No one here named it that much I know.. But for you to argue even after being proved WRONG as wrong can be proven nothing other than you are the type idiot that can't admit you're wrong even if you were locked behind bars you would be claiming innocents type person. I also don't like being wrong which is why I don't say a word unless I'm sure of what I'm saying. As I said I know Bob and know him well. Been to his home in Denver more than once and broke bread with him more than once as well. If he says and he does say that he has a High Altitude ECU that came from Kawasaki that's all I need to know to take a stand. Other's could say that and I wouldn't be so sure. But we have all been here and other places for many years you don't get to a 5K post count overnight. Told you once you have been weighed, measured, and found wanting... take a hike and learn to listen possibly you won't look near as stupid next time you decide to speak but I'm betting you aren't done here and looking stupid is what you do best so continue I'm done here and with you.
And most importantly take your own advice admit you were schooled and take the initiative to learn from here forward... If you decide to keep babbling start with listing every point about this topic you were right on and every point I'm wrong about... Don't just keep saying you know so much list it out the post above will either prove you right or wrong and likewise.. Otherwise go argue with a rock somewhere

I'd be happy to learn about the "High Altitude ECU" because apparently I did miss the availability. I could have used one probably because of that pesky high density altitude at Bonneville. Man I wish they'd have told me about that.
Can anybody point me at a part listing for that? I am actually being very serious. If there is such a thing I'd like info on it.

Glad you aren't disappointed Doug and likewise I've never been surprised by anything you say. There's a man above that listed the part number but you're telling me you missed seeing that? Here it is copied and pasted for you .........The "High-altitude" version has a number of 21175-1068............. NOW I didn't post that number nor did I check it out. I know Bob AKA Blitz also has a High Altitude ECU in his A1 since he lives in Denver. I do NOT live at altitude so I don't have one. I DID NOT name the thing I simply replied to a thread that YOU posted incorrect information in. Then took mouth from some idiot that started with the muffler bearings and the rest of his bull shit that I'm the wrong person to pull that shit on. He's WRONG you're WRONG the ECU exist and in 2000 when Kawasaki came out with it there was NO OTHER solution for the issue. The ECU isn't necessary since the Power Commander came along but Kawasaki did not see the need to wait for someone else to solve a problem on their flagship bike that they spent more time and money developing than ANY OTHER at that point in time. You know this Dougie but like always you just play dumb but you know what you aren't playing.
Since I don't disappoint you Doug I challenge you to find one thing in this thread that I posted that's incorrect information and post it with proof it's incorrect. Show the world how smart you are smart guy and I post incorrect information. Then examine the bright guys post above and and tell the world where he's right about how any of that garbage applies to the 12R and I'll never post again. Step up Dougie or STFU before you strain your prostate or something old man.

One last thought Dougie if you weren't sure that this ECU never existed don't you think your first reply in this thread should have said......." Huh I've never heard of that before but I don't know everything." Instead you spew the " Don't Exist " Remark then come back to imply because you ran in the salt you should have or would have naturally been made aware of that if indeed it exist that is what you're implying isn't it Doug? Perhaps that tells you that Kawasaki doesn't think as much of you as you think they do since they had parts that could help you and didn't think to glue you in. Just spiff balling there but there is usually a message within the message somewhere intended for only those in the know to catch. And like the race ECU's Kawasaki makes available for the 6R and 10R they don't make outdated models so I'm willing to bet you can NO LONGER get one of those from Kawasaki for a 13 year old motorcycle at this point, I know they don't list the race ECU for the Gen 1 and I think Gen 2 10R any longer but they 100% surely made them and sold them but most those bikes have been recycled and made into new bikes by now in their eyes so they don't support them just like they no longer support the 12R but you know this right? Out of production for 8 years now in the US and 7 years in EU so finding the part number in their system isn't most likely going to happen even though it has been listed above.

Hey Doug.
Yes it really exist - or at least was awaivable for some time. I don't live in high altitude but regularly drove to the Alps and noticed that the ZX12 didn't like idling at high altitude unless you took the idle up a little and then it wuold idle at 1500rpm at sea level. Read from the H-A ECU from this forum way back in the beginning of ´00 (I'm getting old... ) Asked it from the Finnish importer and they changed the ECU free of charge. The new ECU did feel somewhat more refained and also helped at the high altitude. But because ZX12 doesn't have idle control system (like ZX14 for example) it can't fully compensate for the altitude.
Now with the avaiwability to look inside the ECU I could look the later ECU:s and look what the difference was as I think that the later ECU:s allready have the updated map as the H-A ECU was only for '00. I think that the reason for the new ECU was that the later ECU:s are different (because of the 186MPH limit) and can't be changed for '00. But that is only my idea. And maybe some day I get my hands back to that 1068 ECU and open it up...

What do you know you aren't THE GREAT DOUG ! Even though you owned one Doug says it didn't exist even though you posted the part number Doug is still calling out for proof several post later and spouting off that had Kawasaki had that his Salt bike would have done better with it and without saying the words he was implying that Kawasaki would have seen that he had it.. That's EXACTLY what he's implying. While ignoring you previous post where you gave the part number....
Doug is still playing Cloak and Dagger 13 years later like he's guarding the secrets of the Holy Grail ! Misleading people anytime they get close to figuring out what Kawasaki done to slow down the 2000 12R .. Planting doubt in the minds of everyone anytime anyone starts posting information that he's kept hidden from us all for 13 years now. He has a few supports that I'm sure he's given information to so they stand by his side proclaiming him to be such a good guy... Hell there's a thread in the drag section where he takes credit for the oil pan modifications that Terry Kizer promoted in every printed publication for years concerning the ZX11. Hell I thought all these years Terry and Mo figured that out but clearly Doug did that I wonder why Terry was the one that modified thousands of them if that's the case.. But he sets by and allows the world to be misled into giving him credit for other people's work. Yea he's a hell of a guy. I do like his garage and that 73 Z1 he has sitting in there is all he has or knows that I would ever want anything to do with.

Nothing you have spoke of applies to a ZX12R ECU especially a 2000 Model A1 ZX12R that had a factory High Altitude ECU as NAMED and offered by Kawasaki.
Wow dude. I apologize for apparently disbelieving your boyfriend, If I had known you were exhibiting a emotional response to your loved one being disrespected, I wouldn't have posted.
Since nothing you have said makes any sense, I assume it's all about emotions, and I won't go there.
Why didn't someone tell me I stepped in the middle of a lover's spat??
In all fairness I will tell you that I am on medication that prevents me from experiencing any strong emotions. so I think leading you on to make a fool of yourself is great fun, doesn't upset me at all.
It's always nice to find out who the forum Court Jester is.

There most definitely was a high altitude ECU available on the '00 zx-12r. Mine (bought new here in Denver) has it. I didn't even know about it, the dealer told me. It was a TSB for all '00's sold above 4500 ft sea level (Edit: North American).
I confirmed it with another Kawasaki dealer here in Colorado and Vinnie even confirmed it with his dealer in Oklahoma (who said "Yep it exists. No, you can't have it").
What I never got a straight answer on was exactly what was changed. Sure, obviously the timing and fuel mixture, but was it a CPU change, a PROM reflash, and ePROM reflash, using solid gold solder or what.
Also - being that it was a TSB I have never found a different part # or even any proof of its existence on any fiche.
Steell - you need to show more respect. Not everybody in this world is a bullshit artist and you might learn a thing or two.

Blitz it's not so much this Steell moron that chaps my ass because in this world we choose to exist in he's nothing more than someone that thought he knew something and in reality knows nothing about the topic at hand. Quoting how modern day ECU's operate and trying to relate them to a 13 year old model and most likely and 15 year old design shows a complete lack of intelligence and speaks loudly about him.
Whatever you wrote Steell I didn't even read your shit. There's just so many times any one person needs to be proven wrong and you're already past that limit in my book.
It's Doug that chaps my ass since he's clearly someone that has deep roots in our world yet thrives on misinformation and leading people the wrong direction. I guess he should think about all this and ask himself a question. Apparently Kawasaki didn't see fit to make sure he knew everything after all did they?

Well, I've got no axe to grind with anybody so I'll stay out of all that. :-)
However, I do know what I know and I never post or say something unless I am 100% certain I am correct.
I guess I can see how somebody from down at the lower elevations might not have ever even heard of this. You really can't find anything out about it from Google or Kawasaki or anywhere else that I have found and I guess unless you have a high altitude bike like I do you probably would not know about this.
I have met several A1 owners in the Denver area that know about this and were told the same thing by their dealers.
I also talked with a dyno operator at Erico years ago about this and he said the 12 with the high altitude ECU (yes, he used that term) was very difficult to tune with a PC3-R (which I had on my bike at one time) and that the most horsepower they had ever seen on their dyno at the time was a '00 12 with an Akrapovic and K&N's and nothing else.
