zx-12r uprade advise?
Well I made the switch from the 2009 Busa, to the 2011 Busa to the 2000 ZX-12R. I was a Busa man and didnt think anything could run with it. UNTIL NOW! I've heard the ZX-12 called the Busa Killer but didn't believe it as I murdered everything around here that tried me. So now I have a beautiful 2000 ZX-12R that is just awesome. But with me being a speed NUT, I'm always looking for ways to improve. My bike has some upgrades such as a power commander, muzzy full exhaust, and dropped one tooth on the front.
I hit the 200 mph mark yesterday and it was still pulling, but I ran outta road. Being new to the ZX-12R I'm looking for some advise from you pro's on some upgrades. I had NOS on my Busa but didnt really like the part-time power. I am considering a turbo. I also want to do some brake upgrades. I'm all ears, or in the case, eyes. Thanks guys!

The BMC Race Air Filter works well. 5 degrees of ignition advance. Steel Braided brake lines. Welcome to the zx12r party. Only people who own zx12's know what time it is...

Not sure if Dino still has any of his rear seat hinges left. Those are killer. As is his aluminium trunk replacement and fender eliminator. 'course neither of those are power upgrades. You could go with the system of hooking up the exhaust side of the kleen air to the engine case to give a little vacuum to the case. I seem to recall hearing reports of a HP or 2 from that. I just thread in a Li-Ion battery which is the cheapest 8lbs or so you can lose (though some haven't been super happy with them... works ok for me so far). If you want some real drivability improvements look at ridgeracer's ECU thread and give yourself a true custom map (more so than you can get from the PC).

yeah i didn't notice that before. sounds like your first upgrade needs to be a Speedo Healer. You did NOT do 200mph.

Yeah, I was wondering about the 200 mph it showed me. What can make my speed o be off? Only thing changed was was the front spocket, which can make a difference depending on where the speedo is connected.

You are right Freek. I just had it checked. I was running 86mph and it showed 100mph.

Also I am looking for a replacement for my rear tire. Noticed today that I peeled a 1 inch wide section from the center of the tire. I am running Metzler. What is the best high speed tire with good cornering and a decent life span? Michelin power 3?

What is the tallest tire I can put on my bike to help raise my gear ratio?

Michelin's are good tires. And put 190/55 if You want to turn the machine. It's also a little taller.

Mine showed 220+ a few times (...offscale), that speedo is at least 15% off...
I calculated it was 194.5 @ redline (was a little past redline)...running 200/50 rubba.
Steep downhill freeway 5am Sunday, with a 10-12mph tailwind...

If I had a ZX12R to build right now I would do a 1287cc big bore, get a mild port on the head, degree the stock cams, run an aftermarket filter and an aftermarket pipe (probably a Muzzy stainless - cheap but effective). I'd run a PCIIIUSB, set the gearing up for my tastes (I prefer speed to acceleration so I'd go -2 out back) and dyno-tune the crap out of it to squeeze every little horse and foot-pound I could get. Then I'd go Busa huntin'.

I took it to the Jackson S.C. drag way Thursday night. My times sucked. Mainly because i am not a skilled bike racer and also I couldn't keep the front tire down. It was coming up to an uncomfortable level and I was loosing time by letting out and then getting back on it after the shift. Ran 11:20's at 130 mph.

hey not bad at all for 1st time out. I was doing about same times. I was getting terrible launches w/the same problems= wheelies/wheelspin simultaneously @ launch w/stock gearing.
Just keep trying & I'm sure some of the drag specialists will be along shortly w/sound advice.
