Question regarding clutch lever for a 2002 ZX-12R

Does anyone know where I might be able to find a clutch lever that allows a shorter pull? I don't want to loosen the line, since that just introduces slop. I guess my fingers are a little shorter than average, I grab the clutch lever by the tips of my fingers and after a couple hours worth of riding that can get painful.

Any help would be appreciated.

U might be able to heat it and bend it in some. You'll know if u bend it too far by the loud snap sound it will make..

I have the same problem on my Vmax and switched to adjustable levers. Works great.

I think the ZX6 or 7 might have them.

vmaxwayne- Great Suggestion! Can't believe I didn't think of it since I'm always scrounging stuff off of other things.

I found a 5 position adjustable lever assembly from a 2002 Ninja ZX-6(NOT R). The part number for the assembly is 46076-1165, you will also need a 92066-1077 plug. Ron Ayers has the lever assembly for $28.40 and I forgot how much for the plug. I ordered them and will see how they work out. For this price I will try this setup rather than modifying the existing lever.

Thanks for the great idea.

Hey, is that lever black? ZHooligan has a black brembo master, and of course, the stock clutch lever is not black!

I just received the lever from Ron Ayers via UPS. Once I get a chance to install it and see what problems(if any) that I encounter I will post in this thread.

The lever is all black BTW except for the adjustment knob which is chrome.

About the only thing I can tell you regarding color is to look at some diffent model year ZX-6. The black is from a 2002 ZX-6. Other years may have had different colors. I am just glad I found one at all. At first all I found were hydraulic adjustable clutch levers.

Fitting a hydrolic clutch would be an interesting project, I'd think...

I installed the ZX-6 clutch lever last night and took the bike out. The lever does fit with minimal hassle. I ran into a little problem because of the Heli Bars that I have on my bike. I had to trim a little plastic on the switch to get the lever rotated to my liking. If you don't have Heli Bars this is a direct bolt on.

At level 1 it seems like a longer pull than the stock lever. At level 5 it is a shorter pull than stock by ~1/4"-3/8" in distance. This may not seem like much but it does help me out a bunch.

Next project is seeing if the brake lever from the new ZX-6R will fit the 12. I want both levers to match in color. The ZX-6R lever is black and looks like it will fit.

I like the black. I'm off to go scrounging. Now if somebody can just distract my buddy with the zx-6............

A little update action for those interested. The following part numbers are for an adjustable, black clutch lever assembly and a black brake lever. These are direct bolt-ons if you haven't done anything with your handlebars(such as using the Heli-Bars). If you have the Heli-Bars you may have an issue getting the lever rotated to your satisfaction.

For the adjustable, black clutch lever order Kawasaki part number 46076-1165.

For the adjustable, black brake lever order Kawasaki part number 13236-0024.

These parts are direct replacements.

edit- Also you'll want to order 1 of a 92066-1077. This is a little plastic plug to put in a opening on the top of the clutch lever housing.

The part numbers in my post dated June 4 are correct. If you call up Ron Ayers they will get you the right stuff. Of course you can also double check via the buykawasaki site diagrams. The clutch lever assembly is from a 2002 ZX-6(NOT R), you will find it under the 'handlebars' tab. The brake lever is from a 2003 ZX-6RR, and is under the 'front master cylinder' tab.

REDRIDER- I am not sure exactly what you are referring to. If you are referring to the plug part number that I stated above, the reason for that is that the ZX-6 clutch lever assembly has a little hole in the top of the housing. The plug is to fill that hole so that everything looks 'stock' except that your lever is now black and has 5 positions of adjustment.

I am not trying to 'plug' any particular store or anything like that if that is what you are referring to. I originally just wanted an adjustable clutch lever and figured while I was at it I would want it in black rather than the chrome or silver or whatever you want to call that color. Thus this became a little quest for a pair of black levers that looked like they came that way on the bike to begin with.

If its any consolation, I had to call Ron Ayers to get the parts for the very reason that you stated, ZHooligan. I was hoping that once I had ordered the parts from them that the numbers would be in their database, but I guess it doesn't quite work that way.
