It's snowing! Woke up with a layer of white all over, and more coming down. And wouldn't you know, I moved the silver 1347 bike over to the garage last night, was going to ride it into work today. Now I've got to wheel things around so that I can get the car out!

Trade ya! Snow for Ice! It's been rainin' here in the central part of Arkansas, but in the northwest part of the state (where I always ride), it's been freezing rain and sleet. Little to no accumulation, but that doesn't matter. By now, the highway department has probably spread metric tons of sand on every road and highway, up there. We rarly use salt down here since it just turns the ice to liquid, spreads it and then it refreezes to a smoother and slicker layer of ice. Even if the weather was warm and sunny this weekend, it will take at least 3 solid days of rain to wash all the damn sand of the roads.
Since that's not going to happen, between now and this weekend, it looks like this could mean the end of Red Elk's riding season. During our ice storms last Christmas, the spread so much sand on the roads, it was still on the roads TWO MONTHS LATER! They were still cutting down broken tree limbs FOUR MONTHS LATER!
Let me tell ya, I don't know which sucks worse...
1. Riding on a brisk early spring afternoon and coming up on a blind corner that has a 2' x 30' line of sand in the apex, or...
2. Riding on a warm late spring afternoon and coming up on 5 miles of small tree limbs and large chunks of bark all over the road. The only good part is at least with the tree crap, you'll more then likely see the trucks and hear the chainsaws first.

Up here in the Northwest, folks get entered into the 'Pine Tree Lotto'. It's a special kind of drawing, and the prize is a full sized pine tree coming down on you while you are driving along one of the secondary highways. I guess the real winners are the person's beneficiaries. ____________
