whats the best bolt on muffler?

Just picked up a 2000 zx12. Im sure its power is fine, but I hate the stock sound. Way to quiet for my taste. What muffler out there is a turn key bolt on without installing a power commander. I' be doing a full system later when more money comes in. just want a good sounding muffler for now. Ill be gearing this bike down a bit. I dont need to be doin 190mph. But I love holeshot acceleration. I would like this bike to pull hard to redline in all gears. I would like my top speed to be 170mph. Any suggestions?

This is one of those bikes that you don't bolt on a bolt-on. The full system just picks up so much power over stock you really doing yourself a disservice by not going with a full system.

Also, you can probably find a full system (perhaps used) pretty darn cheap. Certainly shouldn't be much more than the can alone. plus the stock headers are pretty heavy.

Do they make a good Bolt on pipe? Dolt on pipe = EXTRA NOISE ---------------------> NO EXTRA PERFORMANCE! ---------------------------------------> = Annoyance!

And because of the design (namely the size of the flange on the OEM headers) there really isin't any good looking bolt on mufflers awaivable. I'd save the money and buy full also.

Save your coins and find yourself an Arata pipe . New or used just get one and sleep knowing there is no better pipe made for the 12R bar none. Sold my 12R for 3 years and bought it back from the same guys that bought it from me and the one thing I was thankful of was he didn't destroy my Arata pipe. Owen at Arata USA don't keep near as many pipes since the economy took a shit in 2008. He's still there and can still get you whatever you want from Striker of Japan the parent company of Arata so a striker pipe is also the same pipe.. But Titanium has went up and all Arata pipes are Ti.. Some people will tell you a Hindle or an AK pipe is just as good but those people are fooling no one but their self. I've owned both at the same time on 2 different 12Rs at the same time and the quality of the AK isn't close. The performance of the AK isn't close either.

Bolt ons for 12s look terrible mainly because of the funky mounting system. I'd gut the stock muffler if you have the tools to do it or go full system.

One down on the front(17) is a pretty good all around setup. Go two down if you really like to idle away for a stoplight. It should still hit close to 170.

don't forget dumping the stock exhaust tosses the catalytic converter (it's in the header pipe at the rear just ahead of the can/muffler connection), so you will lose a tone of weight. I see Akra's still available on Ebay. I also was a Tsukigi user for many years & like that one too...

Get some higher flowing BMC filters too. I did the combo at the same time & the bike became my own personal ICBM after that. Yeeee'haaa! Hang on!
