New to zx12

Hey guys, I just brought back to life a garaged 2000 zx12r. It was sitting for 4yrs. The previous owner was told by his wife to park it when him and his wife starting having kids. So I bought it for $1800. It looks super clean. I did have to het a new battery and have the gas tank redone. Put gas in and it fired up.

The clutch makes a rubbing vibration at times. Im thinking its just sticking a little due to sitting. Ill get a new one when money comes in. also, tires have decent tread but are dry. I would say they need to be replaced with good sticky tires. I have heard many good things about this bike about its power. the bike is completely stock. At the moment it feels reaaly tame. Its so quiet, it sounds like a cadilac. What would most of you say about this bike in stock form? I had a ZRX that I had built with1224 kit with cams that put out 160hp/100lbs trq. Many people have said that the zx12 dominates all. I just would like your opinion of the zx12. It would be fun to hear your review of your zx12 compared to riding with other sport bikes.

I've had a 204hp 12 and a 171hp zrx and the 12 was much more fun on longer rides. It was meant for going fast everywhere. It's very solid and stable at speed and handles pretty well. The zrx surprised a few people. The 12 is still one of my favorites. Lots of hp potential. It's one of the most comfortable big bikes, especially with some risers. Busas and 14s are somewhat similar but more long and low and they don't have that raw hp feel of the 12.

Jason,

As mentioned on ZRXOA, you just need to look around here (use search function.) There is 13 years of info massed into this one forum. More details on any part of the bike than can be believed. Just takes some reading on your part as the site has slowed a bit over the years.

As I said over there, this is the most fun bike I've ever owned. I am still kicking myself in the butt for selling it after 10 years. I was just broke at the time & needed bux. If I ever get a few bux, I'd buy another one in a flash! You got such a deal man...

I think you need to get fresh tires on it now that your brake issue is solved. Now is the time to just get on it & ride the heck out of it. Go out & get used to it, & put some miles on it. Tinker w/the suspension adjustments & get it set up for you. Get used to the massive HP. Learn it's personality...

All the best,

Dave

One of the best ways to uncork a 12R, much like the ZRX 1100/1200s is a proper full exhaust system.

The ZRXs we've seen stock jump from about 110 to an honest 130 jetted and setup right with a good exhaust and tuning. Not to mention a significant weight savings.

In the same way the 12R picks up ridiculous power....stone stock you're looking at about 148 RWHP....at least I did on 2 truely stock 2000 models...and saw 172 RWHP with just a full Muzzy Exhaust system bolted on. Thats borderline unbelievable for most until they see it for themselves before and after.

Redlining or going past it on a truely stock 12R in 6th is a pipe dream (pardon the pun) until you throw on a full exhaust.
