Muzzys block-off plates

Muzzys block-off plates for a 2003 ZX12 that I mostly ride on the street.

What are they??
How hard are they to put on??
Are they worth putting on??
Thanks

There are a few ways to do it cheaper IF you don't want to buy the plates...
I'll let others explain that for you...

Fresh air comes from the air-box/frame (hose above throttle bodies under side of frame/air-box on right side)...the hose goes over the top of the motor to a cylinder looking thingy then Ts off to each side (on top) of the valve cover (plates bolted to top of vavle cover) the air goes down through the valve cover into each exhaust port to help burn/"clean-up" any unburned gases coming out of the engine...
It's pretty easy (IF you have small hands ) to "block off" the system (or instal the Muzzys Plates) and removes a few ounces of weight from the bike...
Too tired to go on so...I'll let other folks tell you more...

Here's info from Easy's site on Kleen Air Removal process. It cost about $5 and takes about 15minutes.

I used a washer and some aluminum tape for mine.

Important to use the washer...ive seen the pressure rip right through a set that was just taped over.

Kang,

I haven't done mine yet...I waiting for my exhaust to arrive
in the next 5 - 10 days and then I will do the mod. I'll let you know how it goes. Easy's documentation seems to be pretty straight forward.

I use a rubber freeze plug...with RED Loctite on the nut!!!
ooops...freeze plug for the air-box...
I use rubber stoppers for the plates...put them in from under side and they get pushed tight in the hole when you bolt the plate back on

I made plates,...but with the mod they're talking about on easys site, you need to retain some of the stock stuff.
They are routing the c.c.breather hose into the exhaust ports.
Time to make some new style plates??

I think the crankcase breather mod is pretty importnt.

Whys that?

(I recall the threads talkin about it...but dont recall anyone actually having anything other than theory to back it up)

I wish some one would explain it to me!!
What I'm getting is----the exhaust creates a vacuum, pulling the reeds down, and letting crank case air through to be burned with exhaust.
If this is NOT the case, could someone enlighten me? (please?)

Eh..from what I saw of the reeds...there has to be a vaccuum inside the valve cover to open the reed valves and suck air in...they didnt open "out"...they opened "in"

Or perhaps I have it backwards....its 2am and Im tired

My opinion (for what it is worth) is based on both theory and my own observations. Essentially the factory version of the crankcase vent is to rely on the vacuum of the airbox. And part of the time the box has vacuum. But at speed the box in theory becomes pressurized by the ram air and thereby the vent is not functioning as there is no vacuum. And it is at the higher rpm range that theoretically the crankcase pressure is at its greatest and needed the most.

Using the mod in question, the vent is under vacuum all the time and thereby relieves the crankcase pressure. What I observed on my 12 was / is an in to oil in the air box, oil seapage (minimum but was there) and the oil quit pushing up the electrical wire. Perhaps it is all coincidence but at least in my case I believe it worked.

It is hard to duplicate the everyday real application. As obviously a dyno does not simulate the conditions conditions of speed and a pressurized airbox. So in my case I am willing to work with the theory and in the worst case I have ended up with a more positive crankcase vent. I would think that if we are to believe that the ZX12 ramair system is functional. And that it actually provides pressurized air then it would be difficult to explain how the crankcase can be positively vented at speed. And it would stand to reasons that it would and is likely that not only is the crankcase not under positive vacuum that it is in fact being pressurized.

This all said I can see no downside to the mod and only a possible upside with very little cost and or work involved.

i'd like to see someone actually rum a bike on a dyno, one run stock, one run connected to the reeds, one run with a racer's air pump. of course preferably with a pressurized airbox like zhool said. should be pretty easy to swap fom one setup to another without even stoppin the bike

We are "talking about" making a way to actualy put air under pressure into these bikes on the dyno...it CAN be done...and we have the people here that can figure it out
Our resident "rocket scientist" has already tossed some #s at me about how much HP it will take to produce 100+mph air in front of the bike
If we do it we will also measure the pressure inside the air-box...
That being said...we are so busy here that...I'm sure we won't be doing it very soon but we DO have an intrest in COOOL styuff like this...
