16/44 gearing

Any of you guys running 16/44 gearing? Does your bike wheelie as much or does the extended wheelbase keep the front end on the ground?

Thanks,

Red

16/44 is virtually the same as 17/46 but slightly longer wheelbase in the stock arm. It's not a very noticable change, but every little bit helps! Photos here http://www.dontbescaredracing.com/photos/gearing

I went from 17/46 to the 16/44 based upon input from some people here and I did notice a difference. Small, yes.....but a little help none the less.
(I race my bike about every week)

BA,

Since you race weekly....how's 16/44 for keeping the bike from being a wheelie machine?

Thanks,

Red

I thought 1 tooth in the front was about 3 teeth in the rear 16 - 44 = 17 - 47. and 16 - 47 is just insane. I would take off in second

Kind of like a 17 49 and a half or 17/50.

Red, seat time helps to calm the wheelies down...It takes time to getting the throttle/clutch in sync...

The 2002/2003 ZX12 is much smoother than the 2000/2001...

I have 17-46 on the 2000, the 16-44 wheelies too much on the 2000 with a Muzzy!!!

On the 2002 I have the 16-44 and its perfect, with the Akrapovic...Went to the DragStrip last night,

r/t..... .566
60'.... 1.708
330... 4.295
1/8.... 6.367
mph... 118.87
1000.. 8.161
1/4.... 9.680
mph.. 147.94

2002 Candy Blue 12, Akrapovic, Muzzy blockoffs, 16-44, Slammed, OEM tires, swingarm, stock motor using 93 octane, No air/electric shifter!!!

I agree that seat time is paramount, there is no substitute.

The short answer for you is that 16/44 DOES NOT keep it from being a wheelie machine.

If you are at stock wheelbase, and 17/46, then you cannot go WOT and keep the front end down. However, if you are very good at slipping the clutch, you CAN keep the front down with stock wheelbase and the 17/46.

The 16/44 won't make a world of difference, it's just another thing to help out a little bit.
I think you get something like 1/4 or 1/2" extra wheelbase. It basically puts you ALL the way back on your adjuster.
That aluminum slider thing is right at the end of the swingarm edge.
Personally speaking, I felt a difference, but had radiator leakage before I got more than a couple of passes on it. Last race-day of the past year too.......
This year should be interesting. I'm predicting 9.2x using stock engine and stock wheelbase.

Okay BA,

If 16/44 is still difficult to keep down. Will a 17/44 fit on the stock swingarm? Has anyone tried this combination?

Thanks,

Red

17/44 would definitely fit, that would make you slightly shorter than 16/44.

Not exactly the hot tip for drag racing ET's, but it should definitely help with the wheelies!

Nice times Crotch! Shoot, a 1/10th off your 330 could get you in the .40s! Nice!
