water temp question

hi all zx12 owners i bought my 2004 zx12 in september and have been out on it as much as the weather allows on the move the engine water temp seems ok but in town or slow traffic ive noticed the temp needle go up quite high and the fans are running constant it seems to me that by the time the fans come in the temp is way to high is this a regular thing with 12rs if so is there a way to cool things down like a replacement thermostat that opens earlier or a temp switch to cut the fans in quicker as i dont think having a engine running this hot is a good thing your help would most greatfull . cheers

Hello and welcome!

These engines like to ride quite hot and when the temp keeps below top I wouldn't be worried. But it would be wise to change the coolant to new and maybe use 60%water 40% coolant mixture if Your not in a very cold climate during winter. Some have used water vetter or something similar or some have wired manual switch to turn on the fans when You have to stop. But as You allready have the later model with two fans it should be ok - just make sure that the needle doesn't go all the way top or even start flashing. It can go higher but if it stays under full You're covered.
