speedometers on the zx12r
i see in a lot of pictures the zx12r speedometer goes up to 220mph. do both generations of the zx12r say that on the speedometer or just the first generation ones? i thought the second generation ones only say 200?

Originally, Kawi was going to put a 230 mph speedo on the faster green models but didn't want to make the other owners feel inferior.

the canadian 2000 model went to 350, tho the highest number posted was 340. so i guess US models win in the "my penis is bigger" speedo wars

When I first got my silver 2000, a little boy and his friend were looking at my bike at the gas station. One boy saw the speedo and said "Oh man...that bike goes 340!" The other boy nonchalantly shrugged and said " Aw man..thats nothin', my brothers motorcycle goes 400 easy"

I can see it's going to be necesary to cover my speedo up on my 2000 so you perverts will stop peeking t it with envy.
Oh yeah, and that would be a Green one!!

can you swap the speedo guage from an 00 into a 2nd gen just fine? will the speedo still read correctly?
comparing the guages next to each other, are the increments the exact same spacing with just the added speed listed?

Cant buy the parts seperate. Just buy a used or new complete 2000 speedo cluster. Three bolts and one harness plug to install! Simple!
Record mileage from your old and new units.

So how come my new 2003 B2 has got a 3000kmh, 190-odd mph speedo?
But it's also got - wait for it - a hazard warning light switch..... Easily worth 10 mph.
I think it's a political thing, the manufacturers don't like to be seen to be producing "silly" bikes, although the difference between 180 and 200 mph seems like a moot point to me.....
When the Hayabusa came out, it was (and maybe still is) banned in Holland. It was seen as "irresponsible". I'll show them irresponsible..... (really)

That's 300, not 3000.
Obviously.

The Busa wasn't and isn't banned in the Netherlands. It just started a discussion about the irresponsibilities of having motorcycles that could do more than 300kmh. (I've never heard such a discussion about cars doing the same or more...).
The result of this discussion was that motorcycle manufacturers were 'kindly' asked to refrein from building bikes that could do more than 300kmh. And the bike builders complied.
Happily they castrated the bikes in such a way that could easily be undone

You can try all you want...you'll be lucky to get 170mph out of a stock bike.

I ran it up to 190 INDICATED one time. Don't know what actual is. Don't think I was going down hill....
Maybe I had a tail wind.
Plus, I have the faster black model.

I thought this thing was being tested in the UK a couple of years ago at approaching 200mph?
("Performance Bike", "Fast Bike") et al.
170? ZZRs were doing that 10 years back.
Bollocks.

And mine says "280" kmh, but there is a line at 300, it just doesn't say "300".
Politically correct or something I reckon.
More bollocks.
