Clutch experts???
Just put a new Muzzy clutch in the 12 and its just not right. Broke it in with 30 or so street miles. First run made it all the way to 135, clutch cover too hot to hold hand on. Adjusted for more free play then it creeps through the lights, can't hold it. Engagement is right off the grip. Did get some runs at 141 but clutch cover still too hot to hold hand on. Put 3 Muzzy springs in. Had similar problem with my Bandit and went to 2 Barnett springs to get it to hold. Any thoughts? I soaked the plates good in oil and put together per their instruction sheet. 2000 model bike with 195 rwhp and previous runs at 148-152

Clutch cover is always hot as hell...
What thickness steels,what was stack height???

the Muzzy uses a thicker set of steels and 10 frictions rather than 11. Talked to them they said was an adjustment problem. That I need to adjust for each run...it got tight and perhaps spun the center steels. Its coming apart for an inspection. They said keep the 3 springs as it promotes engagement through slipping off the line. I should have caught the mal adjustment..just didn't

you shouldnt need to adjust every pass, i agree with adjustment issue cause you shouldnt be moving just off the perch, I had mine set like that cause of slipping up top (5th,6th gear rollons) ended up being my clutch wasnt thick enough, stay close to the tall side of the clutch stack, I also used all 6 heavy springs, kinda hard to deal with in stop n go traffic but it also reassured me that i wasnt going to have an issue with slippage on the big end, u may have to swap stock steel or 2 to get your stack height right

The factory clutch comes with a two piece spring set that slides in with the first friction plate. This first plate has a larger diameter to allow for this spring and ring set. Remove them both from the clutch pack and measure your stack height and set at factory height using one of your old steels and a new thicker one or two thicker ones. Whichever puts you back to the factory height. Chatter and slippage will be eliminated if you remove those two rings from the inner clutch hub. And be sure to check your factory clutch cable at the lever for wear and snapped threads. Creeping is sometimes a sign of tight clutch or faulty cable. 3mm of slack in the lever is recommended

Thousands of Muzzy clutch kits in the field. Follow the kit instructions exactly and it will work fine. Should not need adjustment "every run" unless you are needlessly slipping the crap out of it.
