Air Box Cover Mod....
this has been talk about way back when... But has anyone ever had proof that this works?....seems fairly easy to do...
The Air box Mod Procedure is as follows:
- remove the existing aluminum concave plates, lay them on your 1/8" plastic sheet and draw an outline.
- cut the plastic out.
- mark the holes accordingly and drill them to size, use the original screws.
- now, put a silicon seal bead around the outer perimeter of the frame where the plates seal. Once dry, this will act as a perfect gasket with the pressure from the 3 bolts per plate.
- regarding the air temp sensor, just remove all the factory stuff and using a tap, thread the plate DIRECTLY UNDER THE TROUGH CUT FOR CLEARANCE ON THE GAS TANK. Open and close the tank a couple of times and you'll see what I mean, you don't want to pinch the sensor wire.
- Once completed, put a little silicon on the threads of the plate to prepare it for the sensor, this will lock it in nicely.
- I always duct tape the perimeter of the plates once they are in place, and I do the same with the air filter slots up top. This provides as much pressurization (less air leaks), as possible when the 12 is rolling.
(note from Easyrider: some people have used clear plexiglass that allows for viewing of the airflow in combination with some smoke at the input, it can be quite interesting to watch the airflow at different rpm's)

Im going to go with "Doesnt do a damn thing" for $500 Alex...lol
I would make them out of plexiglass, then I would use "color" smoke sticks near the intake snokle and amuse myself under WFO runs...lol. Maybe Id fog it too with the clear inspection plates..lol

Man that's fucking funny!!! I can see some dumbass scattering the motor on his 12 while using the "Smoke Sticks".
Speaking of smoke sticks,......I need to go take a smoke break.

Voz, I think you have discovered a little something and no one wants to admit to it! I should add Air Box Volume which helps keep up the pressure during inlet Pulses. I may even make mine stick up and gain more air !

Yea, mine are made from flat .125" plate aluminum. I had some pics posted.
I just did it because I like to tinker and make things.
I really dont think the small % of added air box volume will do anything measureable.
Wow, i just noticed this thread is OLD as hell. Duh.... never mind.

Man this is an old post.
I did this mod just for giggles and made several runs at Maxton with and without the flat plates. Picked up exactly zero mph.
Oh well, nothing ventured, nothing gained!
Unlike some things, this mod cost me nothing so nothing lost either.
