full synthetic oil
I have been told by quite a few people that running full synthetic oil is bad for the wet clutch. Something about it breaks down the fibers in the clutch. My buddy I ride with has a 2004 gsxr 1000 with only 4000 miles on it and he just lost the clutch in it last month. I have been running full synthetic in my 2002 zx12 with no issues so far. Any feedback would be great. Thanks!

Who ever spews crap like that needs to be flogged with a rusty 630 chain. No, full syn oil made for MOTORCYCLES will not harm the clutch. The same thing can not be said for automotive oil as some do have additives that will made the clutch slip. A clutch going out can be caused by any number of things. Abuse it usually the most common. Some other causes that come to mind are improper setup and adjustments, the wrong oil and crappy aftermarket components.

Most oils including auto oils will work fine. Back when mobil 1 first came out they had issues since they used graphite or something like it in which messed with wet clutches but have gotten rid of that long ago.
I have used the 4t also along with red line oil and several others in my bikes over the years. Zero problems other than draining my wallet but that was my choice to go full synthetic.

Do clutches age well? Perhaps your buddy's bike only has 4k miles but it is an '04, so things breaking down. Also, has he ever changed the oil? Leaving used oil sitting in a bike is said to cause acidic conditions that eat the engine. With a bike with so little mileage on it, that strikes me as a likely scenario.
Course i could just be spewing garbage too.

FWIW I know of many riders who are using Shell rotella T full synthetic for diesel truck engines in their cruisers, and have over 60,000 K with no issues. I have also known of it being used on sport bikes with no isues at all. I have felt my bikes run cooler, smoother and shift better on synth. You can always straddle the line and use semi/synth too. I suspect a too tight clutch cable, or maybe too much slipping of the clutch off the line - that eats 'em.

I've been running rotella T dino and syn lately. No issues yet, but then only have like 10000 miles on the stuff so that isn't saying much.
