Miles on tank of gas
OK I began breaking the 12 in the other day and i put the K&N's in before it's first ride and i now have about 90 miles on the bike...I filled the gas tanks up at 60 miles and i now have 90 and i'm already down to a half a tank....30 miles on a half a tank of gas doesn't seem right...could the filters be causing bad gas miles if they are not seated right the like K&N's are known to do????Need feedback ASAP

are you using the guage as a measuring device, or are you actually counting miles vs. ammount of gas put in tank.
In prior posts, depending on riding style, people here said they got from 30-40 mpg average (mostly towards the lower 30's) some worse.

Your guage is useless. Go by miles run. I usually fill up at 110-120 miles.

Hers's the thing though...the bike wasn't full when i took it for the first ride...like i said i got 60 miles out of it the yesterday i filled it up, now at 90 miles it's one square before the half mark...it seems like its using to much gas to quick

One thing to remember is that the shape of the tank makes it very hard to measure accurately, the top half will go down faster than the horizontally stored fuel down low.
The guage is only a thing to tell you if you have some fuel in your tank. (just like a cars inaccurate gas guage)
It is not an accurate measuring device and the readout curve is not linear.
Just keep an eye on the guage and the odometer and you'll see that each bar does not get the same ammount of mileage out of it.
Even better yet, watch the road and fill up whenever you can!

You will get mid 20s to 50 mpg, depending on your mods and your style of ridding. 110 to 120 miles on a full tank is a good average.

The one thing that is IMPORTANT, when you hit the reserve (Blinking bar), get gas right away, or the motor will be cutting off when you least expect it.

I just accidentally got my best mileage this week, 31. I say that because I wasn't trying because typically I don't care. I'm sure I could do a lot better and have done much much worse.
My gauge ('02 model) has been dead on accurate. The last bar is supposed to flash with 1/2 gallon left and when mine flashed yesterday I rode another 3 blocks and put in 4.5 gallons on 140 miles.
With that being said I still reset the trip meter and run about 120 miles and fill, or fill at every stop I make when with a group. This was just me testing to see how far I could go. As a rule I watch the miles and not the gauge.

My all time best is 145 miles, but that was touring and the last bar was blinking for a long time. Scary when your crossing Montana/N Dakota. By 120 I'm looking for a station One wrong turn and your done. I carry a little squeeze bulb pump w/clear hose, just in case. Range is the only real reason I was considering a ZZR.

I once got 180 miles/tank droning on the highway. The fillup took 4.9 gallons.
My 2000 got an average of 39 mpg when I totaled up all the gas I ever bought for it vs the miles ridden.
My 2002 is alittle thirstier. Could be the heavier crank or tight motor.
But 120-150 is a good range. Keep the 120 mile figure in mind and you'll never have a problem. You dont know how heavy the 12 is until you have to push it 2 miles to a gas station...lol

I get about 180 miles out of my 1361. Thats running it down the freeway on a road trip doing to 80 miles an hour. Of course I do have a gallon over sized tank! Around town and play Hooligan it gets 100 to 120 on a tank.

Maybe I am a little agressive, but about 100-110 is the best I've done on a tank (fill when blinking first occurs!). Of course, that was druing break-in, I think the mileage depends on the rider. My two cents. Oh yeah, if you want good mileage I saw a moped that advertises 80-110 miles per gallon. Cruises at 28 mph!!!!

i get right at 40mpg...... miles run divided by gals into tank
all at hiway speeds..... an aggressive break in
no drags... no burn outs ... no redlines yet
hi torque..... hi speed riding........... no city
noticed also engine runs a tad cool......approx 8 o clock.... fans have been on twice
no idle surge or hunt
no vibes...... no hesitations
shfts great... still using mineral oils.... will switch to syn soon... no smoke
no clutch glitches yet

When PURE stock, traveling on the Blueridge Parkway, two up, at 55mph without stopping once, I got 46 mpg. Now with standard mods, by myself, I get mid to high 20s.

There HAS to be some correlations here. For example, Blueridge Parkway running high altitudes with high octane fuel should yield lower power with better mileage (lower density air requires lower overall octane). I'm curious what us Californians are sacrificing with our stricter emissions and lower octane fuel (91 is max as far as I know). When I drive "leisurely" commuting to work the best I can get is around 31. That sucks compared to my ZX-11 which got 40 always. I just hit 1900 miles so I keep thinking when I get up a little higher and switch to synthetic maybe I'll get 35 (till I crack open the throttle a little more ).
Overall I agree with the rest of you.....who really cares about mileage when you have this kind of power. Plus.....It's not like the Viper you just smoked is getting 30 mpg. So it could always be worse.

Scooter - I get about 225 miles on my ZZR - before going to reserve. Made it from Laguna Seca back up to Seattle on a full tank and 3 fillups. 880 miles.

I believe ZX12Girl holds the record of going through a tank of gas in one hour, while riding to DG I.
I average about 28~32 MPG.

I was able to go 10 miles on my flashing bar before my engine started to sputter. That was fooking around town, though.
Add me to the peanut galler on 120 miles. Range really sucks - but usually by that time I'm ready to stop anyway.
My little Gixxer 600 is much more frugal on fuel than that thirsty 12. I figured they'd be about the same since you gotta rap the shit out of the 600 to get it to go anywhere. But, I guess twice the engine, what the hell should I expect, eh?

I think the most common reason to get only couple of kilometers(miles) on the first half tank is not to top it out completely. If you top it out - You get about 30km(20miles)on the first bar. And I'm also noticed that the gauge is fairly accurate. When I'm travelling trough Europe at tripple digit speeds the most work is to calculate how much fuel You have, because in many European countries they show the kilometers to next gas station - so You're all the time calculating if You can get to the next station. And as I've noticed each bar is app. 2liters(3/5 gallon) and the last is 5(4/5 gallon)(3 with blinking). And by the way I ones consumed a tank of gas in 50 minutes - allthoug I also managed 205 km(128miles)

Busa Killer, have you ever figured out your real mileage? Like flite leader says, Fill it to the Brim, set your Odometer on Zero (The one with the tenths) then ride the Bike until it starts to flash and them fill up Write down the Mileage and divide this by the number of gallons used. Figure that you can safely use 4 gallons until the last bar starts to flash, this will let you know how far you can go! Usually the first bar disappears in 6 to 10 miles. The second bar usually last for all of 20 miles. The 3rd bar will usually go 30 miles. SO in less than 60 miles, 3 bars will dissapear. This is when you are getting about 35 MPG!
