'02 ZRX1200R dealer's cost
I just found out the other day through some investigation that a '02 ZRX1200R is $6815 at dealers cost.
The a-holes I've been trying to deal with act like they're doing me a favor to "let one go" for $7,600.
I guess they don't realize that Kawasaki made 20,000 other ZRXs for sale this year. Oh yeah, and winter is coming on fast! HA HA HA HA HA HA!

Dealer's Cost
I think $785 profit is reasonable. What do you want, a free motorcycle?????
I do!
Got my 00 12R for $8640 out the door.. tax free in Germany.

The Avatar is one of the "NEW" available ones that Fish or Freek added. It's a 9R but close enough. I bought my 12R this past spring... a left over 2000 model, With the German Mark rate and Tax-free it was a steal.

No, I don't expect a free bike. But I do expect a fair deal. I could handle $7,600 for the ZRX if I was offered a reasonable trade-in. They offered me $7,150.
What do they expect? A free ZX-12R?

Trade-In
Yeah.... I feel your pain... but as Im sure you know... you always take it in the butt when you trade. I don't know why dealers (car and bike) can't just give people fair trade-in rates??? A-holes!!! I reccomend that you sell the bike privately, then walk in with cash.. well below what they say they would take.... I bet you will do much better that way! Why do you want to give up the 12 for a ZRX???? I do love the ZRX.... but nuthin compares to a 12R. I do see a few advantages with a ZRX:
1. Easier to work on engine. (Damn those 12R Fasteners!)
2. Maybe a bit cheaper to insure?
3. Much cheaper to fix, should it tip over or something like that.
4. Still fast enough to loose your license with.
ZRX Disadvantages:
1. Quite a few sport bikes can beat it.
2. Aerodynamic as a barn door.
3. Wheelies easier than a 12R (sorry... probably an
advantage)
4. Costs quite a few bucks to make it competitive
with a STOCK 12R.
12R Advantages:
1. Busa/everything out there stomping.
2. Handles great for a 1200.
3. Beautiful.... I get so many compliments.
4. 200MPH... need I say more?
5. Drag racing is more fun when you win.
Disadvantages:
1. Goes thru rear tires almost as fast as gas!
2. Wife might not appreciate the parts/tire bills that seem to roll in at an alarming rate.
3. That's about it.
Bottom line... both bikes rule, and the ZRX would be my next bike next to my 85 kaw turbo and 00 ZX12R if I was in the market for a 3rd.

Well, I like the fact that you don't have to take the ZRX to warp speed to feel the torque. Everytime...and I mean EVERYTIME I am on the 12R I can't keep it below 170. I know where to get away with those speeds witout getting caught, but I can't help feeling like my luck is going to run out someday.
I have a 2year old girl and another on the way and I would like to see them grow up. I guess you start thinking differently when you are a daddy.
Besides, the ZRX is absolutely beautiful IMO, and 150 top end is very respectable for a "standard". I'm sure I'll miss the top end rush, but 150 is plenty fast.

zrx price
Don't laugh to hard about winter coming on as Kawasaki has free flooring (dealer pays no interest) until March on the ZRX . A dealer is not going to be to motivated to give it away just because there is snow on the ground. Now you want them to give up a bike that is not costing anything to keep and take money out of their checking account to pay for your trade which will probably be at their store until spring. What would motivate a dealer to do that? Think about it. Furthermore the dealers I know are not trying to rape anyone, quite the contrary they are just trying to make a decent living.

geeez Rick, you sound like you must be a dealer. I guess to you $7,150 trade on a low mileage 12 in excellent condition is fair?
You and I both know they'll turn around and sell my bike for close to nine to someone. Even if they sold it at $8,150 (if I was stupid enough to give it to them for $7,150) They would make a grand.
I'm all for a dealer to make money and survive. They're not in business to break even and they're not in business to do favors. Who is? My thing is this: they paid the mechanic in the back making $15 bucks an hour (I asked him) to put the ZRX together for me. He had three hours in the bike. That's $45 bucks the way I figure it. The bike did not once sit on the showroom floor. No interest being paid there.
...then the fucking commenced. They gave me three different prices on trade-in and kept dicking around with the numbers. I told them if they were going to give me $7,150 for my bike, I'd give them $7,150 for theirs. Get the picture? With the money they'd make on my bike combined with the money they were making on theirs, It was an easy 2 grand for them. I guess the overhead on the new showroom must be such that now instead of everyone receiving a fair shake, you now get a complimentary ass-fucking.
I've bought 3 new bikes from that dealer and was trying for a fourth. I don't expect any special treatment because of that. Business is business. What I DO expect is to pay them a fair price and to receive a fair price. Nothing more and nothing less.
And Rick, I have tried to spell that out as eloquently as I can to you so your beady little eyes can understand. You sound like you have a lot in common with the guys where I last tried to deal. Couldn't find a job when Yugo went belly up? I really don't mean to flame since I really don't even know you, but if you can't understand all of this, you can just go get fucked.
...another Molson, please.

The Dealer
invests his time, money, and energy so that he/she can be in business to sell YOU a product with no net profit!!!

A local dealer, here in PHX,
has a new 2000 ( no miles ) R-1 for $8500
I know from past dealings, they would

I found a dealer an hour and a half ride from me who is selling ZRXs for $7,100 OTD. Once I sell my 12, I'll be making a trip!

A fair price is what the market will pay for your slightly used bike. If you do not like what the dealer is offering you then try to sell it yourself and get an education on the marketplace. By the way I have a slightly used red 2000 model that I will sell for $7500. Perhaps you would want to buy it and make a cool thousand or so. Step up to the plate.

There was someone on the ZRX board looking for a ZX12R, if you'd consider used maybe you could work a deal on a trade, FWIW http://zrxoa.org/forums/
There isn't that much of a market for used 12R's, I only paid $9150 new(Mar '01), but I paid $7K for the '00 ZRX (Mar '00). If there's any way you can swing it go for both.

Hey,
Have both, you should do the same if you can. The nice thing about the ZRX is that you do not have to do 140mph to make it feel like your are going quick! I have the Factory 2.5 jet/K&N kit, full Akrapovic and 4 degree advancer - 133 rwhp - rips!! 2 cents.
