Why Can't NON BIKE threads be posted in bikeland or something?!
Why Why Why?!?!??!! Post anything you want, just post the non bike stuff in bikeland, not "ZX12R Zone"!!! Or am I missing something?!?!?!

I totally agree. Political discussions need to be re-directed in the same way any other "thread drift" is handled. I don't have time to wade through those digressions. As soon as a topic moves away from the technical you lose me. That's why.

Because nobody looks over there, and there hasn't been much to talk about because of bad weather. The good part is the tiopic and the first post sets the tone. If it doesn't interest you, one can skip it. I do it all the time. Basically it is a bunch of friends bullshitting. I can't wait to rant about motorcycles again. But I got one ride in so far, and it was nothing special. ALthough I did the Race tech suspensoion in the front, and I am holding my opinion until I ride it some more.

Thats is always good advice Doug.
I have a good friend in the R.C. airplane club I belong to who is a Jesuit priest and teaches religious history at a local college.
He is a great guy, and full of life.
His cardinal rule is "never talk religion amongst friends."
You would never know he is a priest to talk to him. (well, his halo might give him away)

My new neighbors are great people. While talking one day he mentioned he was a minister at a local church. Now I am catholic and attend church, although not regularly, and would have no problem if he wants to talk about it but would have a problem if tried to "preach" to me. Well, he has never done that, has never brough it up and never would. I know if I wanted to talk to him about things he would, but never with him instigating it. That is the way it should be.

Religion is one thing and politics is another. I can distance myself from organized religion and believe me I do. Politics on the other hand effect us everyday and baby I pay my share of taxes (so I figure I have a right to my opinion). That is why I hate it when politicians mix religion and politics.

I PERSONALLY, am very torn on this issue.
As this forum's moderator, I could just simply relocate most or even all non-bike related posts (some of mine included) over to Bikeland or some other appropriate forum. I could even limit the "relocation/migration" to just certain "groups" of non-bike related topics (i.e. those of religious or political nature).
Doing so would actual been in line with my beliefs of what this forum's topics should be concentrated on. Not necessarily 12R and 12R only topics, but at least that of a "mechanical/technical" nature, be it bikes or cars. There's a few "exceptions" to my beliefs, such as in Harry's post about his father or that of Wilson's recovery process.
It's not like we are limited in where we can post our non-bike thoughts. We all have equal access to all of the forums on this site as well as those on LA Busas, ZX-12R.Org and a variety of other bike and non-bike related sites. Just as LA Busas has Bike Talk for general banter, we have the Bikeland forum here, just for that specific purpose.
Though one could easily say that over one third of the posts and threads here are not bike related (even more non 12R related), many of us are creatures of habit. Myself included. This is where the dilemma comes in. Like many of us here, I probably have over a dozen bike forum sites bookmarked. Some of the local, some of them international.
Even with all these potential forums available to me offering me the opportunities to voice my non-technical or non-bike related opinions as well as read the opinions of others... I don't go there. Why? Because I am one of those creatures of habit.
Just a quick glance who's posting at the other forums here and at other sites, indicate to me that I am not alone. There are many names that are extremely active at Bikeland and Dragbike Zone that are rarely seen on this forum. In some cases, never seen. The same would apply to many of the names on this very forum.
Sure, you might see an occasional post by some of this forum's active members at Bikeland or LA Busas, but for the most part, when they log onto the net, it's this forum that they will check out first. Often, not even bothering to go to the other sites and forums available to them. With over 49,000 posts on this forum alone, it's easy to realize that not all of them are 12R or even bike related. With close to 4,600 topics, there would be no way that they could all be bike related.
I have said from the very first day I accepted the position as moderator of this forum, I was going to "supervise" (a term used VERY loosely) the forum in basically the same way as the forum I still refer to as my "home". That would be LA Busas' ZX-12R Talk forum.
Okay, so Duc and Go Big basically ignored that forum and I did not plan on being THAT "hands off", but the point is that the forum was not called "the library" for nothing. It was referred to as "the library" because it was not only self-policing, but was self moderating on it's content and direction. For the most part, it was focused on mechanical and technical aspects of the Kawasaki ZX-12R.
Now that the 12R has entered it's forth model year, many of those mechanical and technical aspects have been covered. Dyno numbers have not been discussed in months. Topics concerning things like block off plates, suspension tuning or exhaust systems are almost equally sporadic. Even ventures into more generic topics of tools, tire changing and bike stands have all but been covered repeatedly.
Does that mean that there is nothing more to say about the ZX-12R? Hardly! In reality, we have still only scratched the surfaces of all the technical and mechanical aspects of the 12R. We've done even less on the topic of motorcycles and riding in general.
Still, part of this forum's uniqueness is what it is at it's core. This forum is nothing, I repeat, NOTHING but a "mirror" of those who wish to participate and contribute to it's content. Though most of us would love nothing more then to spend every waking moment of our lives working on, riding or just talking about our bikes, we can't (not everyone can have a cool job like you, Doug  ).
The forum has grown it to a huge equation of "life". Our lives and the "total sums" of them. It's gotten "personal", because many of us view those here as "family". I would just as readily open my doors and offer my garage to TedG and VincentHill as I would Otis and Harry. Simply because they are my family. No quotation marks... they are REAL FAMILY.
If the five of us, with our bikes, were to gather together in my garage (it'd be kinda cramped), it would be just a short matter of time before the topic of discussion changed from bikes to something non-bike related. Considering the differences of social/political viewpoint between us, it would most likely get pretty heated as well. After a little smack talk of frustration (trying ever so hard not to resort to name calling - not in MY garage), we would all dawn our helmets and go for one hell of a ride.
This forum does nothing more then mirror that. Though the subject matter might stray for motorcycles, eventually we come back around to what brought us together in the first place. Sometimes it comes back around quickly, sometimes it doesn't. Just like "real" life.
Just like there are some that will not read my posts because of their long winded and often pointless nature, there are those that wish this forum would remain faithful, almost monastically, to the 12R or at least to motorcycling. Like I have said, I not only understand that viewpoint, but I also agree with it in many ways.
It's just that I can also say that the majority of those here have long since quit using our keyboards and monitors to hide behind... if we ever did at all. We have become more then just distant personalities attached to a screen name. We have become a family. The downside of being a family is that it also comes all those quirks and idiosyncrasies that are so easily avoided when a forum is just a mere source of technical information.
For me personally and for now, I lean towards the family aspect, so ... HARRY! GET YOUR GOD DAMN ELBOWS OFF THE FUCKIN' TABLE WHILE WE'RE EATING DINNER! (sorry about that).

What I should have said is most of my friends are on this side as I also have friends on dragbike zone and bikeland.A lot of people that go to the dragbike zone check this side too.
