Need help defeating gsxr1
Hello all, I need some help beating a guy with a gsxr1. I live mile high my bike has hindle pipe and 1 tooth up in rear and 1 tooth down in front. I got dog bones dropped 2 inchs, and a strap. addtionally it has muz ign adv plus 4 degrees. I ran a 10.57 with a 1.81 60ftr@ 138. I weigh 220 in full leathers. My opponent has an 02 gsxr1000 with one tooth in the front weighs 140lbs. At the race track he ran a 1.82 60ft and a 10.30 @138 mph. I was wondering if i might need to go 1 more tooth up in the rear. The last gear I shift into (4th) is about 100 ft before the traps. Before I went 1 tooth up in the rear, I use to finish in 3rd at the end of the qtr and would bounce off the rev limiter just past the qtr mile. My bike was stock and was running 10.8 @134 mph with 17 front before the above mods. The reason I went up 1 tooth in the rear was I thought the new found power might make me shift into 4th right at the end of the qtr. I was also thinking about getting the mt dot tire. So do i try 1 more tooth in the back or switch back to the stock rear gear? That stick boys bike weighs 110 lb's less and he's 80lb's or 190 total lb's lighter!!!! help!!!!!!!!!

I would try working on your 60' times down to a 1.6 to 1.5's. You'll beat him then! Gearing, I would try the stock rear sprocket and go down one in the front. Anyone care to comment?

He is beating you between the 60 and the 8th mile mark (meaning he is getting to WOT quicker than you are).
Both have identical mph...meaning you arent ever gaining ground on him...he just gets from one stripe to the other about half a second quicker (could even be the shifting method).
ET shows launching ability...MPH shows horsepower.

YCIS, your comments make sense to me. What are your thoughts on my gearing. As I stated in my earlier post, shifting into 4th gear about 100ft before the traps. I'll work on going to throttle lock sooner but, hes .27 better.I still think weight or lack of it has something to do with his better overall et. When I do roll ons with this guy his bike pulls slightly. This is in any gear and we both take turns saying go. thanks

Practice Practice Practice........your 60foot and then 330 times need improving. Do this and you won't need to change anything else. For roll-ons, go 16/46 or just stay the same but make sure that you are above 4500 rpms before you start. Make him run YOUR race!!!

You are losing in the beginning of the race..not the end. .27 seconds in the 1/4 is a few bike lengths...a single shift at the end is not going to make that up.
You cant make up that gap at the big end of the track unless you trim off some weight..or add some horsepower (something to increase your mph)
Until your mph is greater than his...he is going as fast...or faster than you are at all times on the track.
Without fixing that...the only way to beat him is to accellerate/launch faster/better in the first 330'

I had the same problem earlier this year with my 140lb buddy beating me on a freaking 1200 Bandit. These guys are right. It's just a matter of practice practice practice getting the launches down so your 60's are better. It's a whole lot cheaper than cranking up the HP on the bike.

Are you using the clutch to shift? if you are don't.
It really looks like the 1-2 shift is hurting you.
An airshifter will help ALOT.
I really thought i was good until i used a shifter.
