01 12R-lost 10 MPG for unknown reason
Hello,
I have a bone stock 2001 ZX-12r w/ 15,000 miles And in the past couple of years the MPG has gone from 39 to 29 MPG.Fuel is fresh, oil is fresh, bike runs well........... could it be dirty injectors, bad plugs, etc.I want to set the bike up as a daily driver.Which sprockets are best for the most MPG.I have a full akro exhaust aside from that the bike is stock. Will a PC3R and a map help me get better fuel mileage or not.Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Nick

Plugs would be my guess, along with checking your air filter, i would think the stock gearing is ideal for fuel mileage, gearing it taller would probably be more of a strain from a dead stop and lower rpms and suck more fuel to get up to your cruising speed. I'm sure a pc3 or r would make a difference cause from what i've heard the 12 runs fairly rich stock, so u could squeeze some miles out of a tune, why not do a hub and run 2 separate maps so you can change it anytime, map 1 for speed/perfomance and map 2 for fuel economy, just some guesses, i could be barking up the wrong tree but i'm sure others will get you straight, and try a little gas treatment from time to time, this ethanol gas sucks for injectors

I'd point my shot in the dark towards having the injectors cleaned.

what supra said. do a tune up. then go on a dyno and get it sniffed to see where you are. after the tune up and check the valves.
my bike ritchened up over the coarce of a couple of years. i have changed the iap sensor and the atmospheric sensor before 15,000 though.
