curious
Since stock valves are maintained in a head for smaller bigbore (1270) has anyone ever done a SS head with exhaust port cleaned up, since the intake ports are already fairly good, and stock (degreed) cams? Or is the compression of the milled head combined with the 13.5 1270 kit to much?

I don´t have problems running pump gas in my 1270 with milled head, unfortunately I don´t remember how much it was milled. Be careful with piston to valve clearance. My 1270 has 2 intake cams set at 108/108, rev. limiter extended 600 rpm (ace performance), no pc, Brocks sidewinder. Best 1/8 mile et is 5,59 126.6 mph under ideal conditions.

was the 13.5 number gained from actual measurement, or was that just the number on the piston box?

you need to measure actual before work is done. using the exact same forging of pistons, ive put together 3 1287 combos and cr was 12.9: on 1, 13:1 on another and 13.5:1 on the last depending on things like after market valves, squish, and combustion chamber work. they all can alter what the base cr of the piston is. my 9.8:1 turbo piston'd motor was 8.7:1 (on purpose )

I'm going to say that if you're not into revving it that high stock cams on a 12R are honestly pretty damn good.

So if I used a psi gauge with all plugs out n turn bike over 4 or 5 revolution the reading should b 200 or better on all cylinders for a 13.5 or more cr?

thats not how to check ratio. cams and cam timing will alter readings here as much as different pistons

Bigg, you are confusing "checking for good compression" with checking the exact compression ratio.

I see, lol, never done either before, good compression seems fairly easy to check, cr on the other hand.......

when taking it apart to send to Jim. remove cams, remove head. clean up the carbon. level the motor (cylinder deck) rotate motor so 2 pistons are coming up. wipe some thick grease on the cylinder walls. rotate the motor to TDC so the rings catch the grease. carefully wipe away excess grease. you basically just need to make the rings "solid" to make a perfect seal. reinstall head with the same thickness gasket you plan on using. seeing how you have the 1270 i believe theres only 1 off the shelf option, so reuse the old one. if the viton coating is flaking off, maybe put a very very slight smear of grease on it, just barely enough to see. if any squishes out you put way too much. using a large syringe fill up the combustion chambers to the top of the spark plug threads with tinted alcohol. this number minus 1.2ml is your compressed volume.
total volume is Pi x R squared x H + compressed volume. CR= total / compressed
ex , ill just make it easy and do 1270/4 to get the volume of 1 cylinder, and pretend we put 27ml of fluid in
1270/4 = 317.5
317.5 +25.8 = 343.3
343.3/25.8 = 13.3/1 or 13.3:1 CR
just random numbers that are close to what you will be dealing with
after you see where it is, then we can make better suggestions on what should be done
