2003 Hyabusa vs 2003 ZX-12R?

I am going to buy a new second bike. I'm currently riding a 2001 BMW K1200RS. Great bike, but too heavy and not fast enough (I never thought I'd say 130hp was not enough). In mountain riding, not near nimble enough.

I'm 6'1" and about 180lbs and both bikes seem Ok in setting on them but long ride comfort is another matter (I'm pushing 60, so back is not as strong as it once was).

I still trying to decide between a new 2003 Hyabusa and a new 2003 ZX-12R.

Reliability, high speed stability and handling are important to me. Both of them are very fast. Any suggestions as to which I sould buy from people with experience on these machines?

Chuck, you can get 2 different answers from 2 different people. Being this is a ZX12 based board...you can only guess why we would recommend the ZX12.
Either bike will handle fine with a 180 rear tire and minimal suspension work. Both bikes are refined enough to be easy to ride. I prefer the ergos and motor of the 12. SOme prefer the Busa.

I think you could find a better deal on a ZX12 than a Busa. Use the $$ difference for mods like suspension, exhaust, Corbin seat, etc.

With a Corbin seat on and lowering the bike etc I find the the thing awesome for touring compared to the Hayabusa (had both) and now have an 02 12R and I'm almost 50. Plus the Hayabusa in my opinion looks like Mae West with a bad masectomy LOL

I'd say the Busa looks like Mae West with a bad mascetomy riding a rhino Honestly, my vanity got the best of me. Just couldn't see myself riding, let alone feel good about riding the ugly beast. However, I do believe that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so to each his or her own.

Rubber pants, do you have a Corbin on the bike? What did it change as far as height and where did you get it.

I agree with TurboBlew, I had actually set my sites on the Busa and was very happy with it after riding it. I saw an add for a ZX12 which I had originaly ruled out since I had ridden Suzuki for some time, and took it out for a ride. Instantly fell in love with the bike. It fit just like a glove for me and I couldn't be happier I tested the bike. Both are good bikes and eventually someone will come out with the next best thing, so the best you can do is find the one that fits you and you can live with.

I put the Corbin on after about 2000 miles and with a stretch of 300 mile runs the butt gets real sore. Since My self and my 2 other brothers (they have 02 12's as well) put them on .....the sore butt issue is GONE thank god! What an awesome touring bike though, and now we dont get sore except the neck from extreme hard acceleration!!!!!!!!!

I agree with niuhi. I have a Busa right now and I really, really love it. I'm saving up for a ZX-12R and I'm glad I read this because now I'll throw a Corbin on right away. Like an earlier post stated "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". I like the Busa's looks. I must admit, I find the ZX-12R to look sportier and meaner but I still like the looks of the Hayabusa.

I'm with you on the looks, but then again I almost always go for the unconventional.

Thanks for the tip Rubber Pants, I have always liked Corbins saddles, but never really thought about one for the 12. I guess I know what I will be looking at in the near future.
