oil gauge??? who has a good suggestion???
I am looking for an oil gauge, preferably one with a big IDIOT light built in.
It would be really good if the range of the scale is in line with the max pressure of the ZX12.
Any tips from you wrenches???
Thanks in advance,

Actually there is a dude at our local track with one, it's a liquid filled autometer mechanical oil pressure gauge I believe, running out of a port on the engine somewhere. I will check it out and snap a photo for you next time I see him. I would also assume that since this can be done, you could purchase an oil pressure warning light from Summit or Jegs, that looks like a mini-shiftlite which activates at low pressure.

Pressure sender is on the left end of the motor...kinda-sort-of under the crank area...
No suggestions for the guage...

Just a big ol warning light should do the trick. I've never looked at the oil pressure gauge in my race car til after the problem had occurred. If you don't trust the factory sender and light, plumb your in or use the factory sender hooked to a larger light. As Berg suggested, Summit sells a couple of different pressure senders. One that'll turn the light on a 15psi and one at 30. Mount one of their lights and you're in business. I haven't seen any gauges with a warning light built in. I'd go with an electric gauge. 1 1/2" is the smallest diameter one I've seen but I think most auto type gauges would be a pain to mount. I think Daytona makes gauges that are geared toward motorcycle use.

Thx guys! I WILL pursue this, just a matter of exactly how.
like ra12r, i don't even know the basic operating pressures (yet)...

I'm only guessing at this point but...I think the light comes on somewhere at or BELOW 10psi...
I use a good quality hand-held guage on new/built motors when I start them and run them on the dyno and...the light doesn't come on on ZX12s when the pressure goes below 15psi at idle when hot...
Did anyone look in the manual yet??? I haven't...
I agree with the larger light idea...that will get your attention MUCH better than trying to "watch a guage"
HOWEVER...it ALSO wouldn't be a bad idea to be able to SEE the "max pressure" drop on a guage if a bearing was "starting to go" for us guys (and gals) that race...

I WILL put a gauge and larger light on my bike, just a question of what gauge/what light.
The only oil pressure info I was able to find in the manual was 23# @ 4000rpm...
KC: what is the max pressure you see when you are running them on the dyno?
My web search on gauges found they basically come in 60# max and 100# max, 1.5" diameter & 2 1/4" diameter.
JC Whitney (of all places) has gauge kits for a few jap cruisers with fittings & flexible hose, could be a winner????

I'd strongly suggest an electric gauge unless you don't mind springing for some bulletproof supply tubing. I've seen more than one gauge supply line vibrate loose and make a mess and most inopportune time.

If you see a "light" go on with either aftermarket or a stocker, it will just confirm to you that it's TOO LATE.
A gauge will help monitor your system over time, which is nice...............
BTW, the 00-01 12's will run as low as 5-7 psi at idle HOT!
Best bet is to take good care of your oiling system, chage the oil every 1,500 mi and use GOOD oil and filters. If you see a light some day...time to do a tear down.....That's just the way it is.

Ken,
I found a place " Lauderdale Speedometer" which distributes Stewart Warner guages (0-100, 2", white face, 270degree scale) and supplies top shelf flexible oil lines. Guy says the gauge can take 25% over the 100psi without hurting the gauge.
I will go mechanical because the sender for electric is kinda large. I am waiting on a call today for timing & price.
