hey eric, nice car for sure. ver mean lookin. but that thing is jsut SCREAMING to be lowered an inch or 2. looks like it's in 4wd mud tracktor mode!
YCIS, dude, GIVE ME MY CAR BACK!! i'm not kiddin ya, exact replica of what i got. well, cept mine is currently burried in snow & rather rusty in parts but same shade of red, same wheels, front & rear bumpers removed. most of the rust isnt visible fomr outside anyway, so it looks pretty much identical. bet urs hasnt been doin a bit o solo, non-competitive rally racin on yer local logging roads has it? cant wait to get that car fixed up again. a blast to drive, specially with the interior completely ripped out. thing weights about 2200lbs with a full tank o gas right now!

oh man....we just became best buddies
I dunno SQUAT about this motor/trans...and I had every intention of ripping everything out of this car...and replacing the motor with a SBC/SBF with a large turbo on it.
However this car is in such good shape....Id kinda like to get it running just to see what its like. Plus I have a few months till the new motor/trans is ready anyway.
I noticed one thing already (Pushing it up the driveway) is that the front wheels rub very easily on the leading edge of the fenders when the wheel is even slightly turned. I was thinking this may be due to the shocks/springs just being toast on the car and its sitting lower than it should be??
Anywhoo....Im going to dive into it tonight and see what all I need to replace/repair
More pics to come!

wish we lived closer tso i could take a look at her! the fronts rubbing is rather odd. they look close to stock height, so i dont think worn shocks is a prob. even if they were, it shoudl never rub, regardless of where the front end sits. it seems like there's plenty of clearance, so dont see why the'd be rubbing. is it rubbing against the outer finder itself, or against that cardboardy inner fender? course, that may onyl be on my 280; not sure if the 240 has that. the first thing that came to mind was the bodywork may not be straight, but it loosk perfect to me.
the small block route is definitely a popular one & generally considered to be a good one. easy to get huge power oughta those. u gotta put alot of money & work into a z engine to get over 200hp out of an NA. i'm not very up on the turbo's; i think stock was 220. but u'r not gonna get much better than 300 out of one without serious money. went to a track school with one guy who had spent about a jillion bux on his & had about 450hp on tap. but that was all custom, even a motec [sp] computer. u prolly already know this, but there are a number of companies that sell v8 kits for the datsun, meaning a special speedo cable and a few other adapter parts. not cheap, but should make the transition esier. u wont miss anything that way. one of the big advantages of going for a v8 is u can set it considerably farther back in the engine bay, givin urself more rearward weight bias. if i remember correctly, a SB with AL heads is about the same weight as a stock engine. if u can get a AL block (usually people use a Rover engine), u gonan end up lighter than stock. if u got the $$, go fer that. what engine u got in there right now anyhow? stock block or an L28? i was running an L28 with headers, electronic ignition and dual webbers. kind of a bitch to start, but it had a few extra ponies. certainly not the 300+ponies that the seller said it had tho, and my gullible 18yo ass (at the time) believed.
i assume that's a 240? coudl also be 260 or 280 of course. my eyes arent good enough to seek out those differences. exp if thats a 240, u'd be well advised to add some subframe bracing if u'r going for anything beyond a mild SB. the 240 frame aint all that strong. 280 was better, but not good enough to deal with a 400hp+ monster. a strut bar in the front is definitely a must no matter what. alternatively, u can go with a race cage, but i doubt u'd want to do that unless u'r gonna race it.
other things: ther'es lots of body kits out there, but i imagine u wont want to be fucking with that since u have such a nice body anyhow. if ur just looking for a little more room for wheels, the "Subtle Z" kit is nice. very understated, just some mild wheel flares. not sure how big u can go on the tires. one local guy went so far as to sub the rear end a bit to fit 285's on there. there's a few co's out there make cro-moly replacement control arms, those are pretty cheap. coil-over shocks are a common mod, also not too expensive. if u'r gettin a turbo SB u'll DEFINITELY want better brakes. the stockers arent exactly up to snuff. u can go from mild/cheap 280ZX upgrade, to the equallly cheap toyota 4runner 4pot caliper upgrade, or fuck it & get some sweet aftermarket ones. there'a a co that makes a complete four corner suspension package for a decent price (hmmm...not as decent as it used to be!): shocks, coilovers, camber plate, control arms, BIG race calipers & rotors for $1300 a corner. http://www.arizonazcar.com. u can spend ALOT of cash on a zcar. and a big portion of that cash could be with arizonazcar.
well, i'm gonan shut up now before i go & blow a wad (of cash ya assholes!) i dont have on my z

BMW Owns the Mini and since Chrysler and Mercedes are together, and the engine in the Mini was to be used in the PT Cruiser or something like that, I do not think so!
