pipe diameters

currently running a D&D slip-on and was wondering if I could just buy the tubes and collector, reuse the slip-on.Are the after market pipes the same diameter as stock? What is the difference in canisters?

The aftermarket pipes all tend to differ. Some use a small head pipe that expands to a larger dia. , some use cones in the process somewhere along the line to speed up the flow etc. Doug obvious could better explain the science. Big Giant header pipes usually result in horsepower but the low and mid range are hurt. Thus comes the science to figure out how to get the best all worlds.

I've experimented around with different cannisters on my Akro, they varied over .5" diameter outlet. On my bike there was no hp or tq increase/decrease on the dyno and no difference on top speed runs.
Once again, this is not the headpipes, only cannisters.

It seemed so simple to me (simple mind) that a larger diameter outlet would be better for top end power, but it did not prove that way to me.
Seems strange that my sons R1 Akro pipe had a .5" larger outlet, I kinda figured a larger displacement engine would use a larger exhaust. I guess Akropovic know more than me :-)

got a buddy that is running a Muzzy header, and had a Micron can "fit" to the header, it works great, got good midrange and great topend....got better topend according the the seat of the pants dyno than the full Muzzy has...
