Shift points again....
OK, I just got back from the track. I am so confused. I got so much advice from everyone, but nobody seemed to agree on how to do anything. But, here's the one that confused me the most:
One of the guys there told me that I was shifting at too high of an RPM. I've been shifting at 11K. He said that I should shift to maximize the torque. I thought that you were supposed to shift to maximize HP. (See my baseline dyno run.) If I'm right, I'm shifting at the right time. If he's right, I should be shifting somewhere between 9500 and 10,000 rpm. I tried the shorter shifting and ran a tenth slower with about 10 mph less as well.
Who is right? Did I just mess up the runs where I short shifted? You guys racing the 12, what rpm do you shift at?
I don't know if it matters, but I was running with a 17/48 gearing. I'm still bogging. I'm gonna go down to the 16 front next time.

I try to work in the zone of hitting the peak horsepower and the shift then drops the bike into the max torque spot. That being in a perfect world.
Looking at your dyno run if you are shifting at 11,000 you are shift past the roll over point of your horsepower. Essentially the engine is falling off of the horsepower at that point. Plus if you are not using an airshifter and are initiating your shift at 11,000 you are probably really making the shift closer to 11,500. I look at shifting my 1361 in the 10,200-500 zone and let it fall on land in the meat of the torque when it goes into the next gear.
I don't claim to be a great drag racer but I am pretty good at laying the power down and keeping the engine in the sweet spot. Road Racing always starts with a drag race so I do get to practice my drag racing techniques a lot!

ZH,
when i first had my 1361 i tried the 10.2 routine, and it didn't work anywhere near as well as 11.2-4. Maximize hp, forget the torque curve.
