Sprocket Question , Beat to death

I know this question has been beat to death but I am going to ask it again becasue I am upgrading now. What is the best sprocket gear ratio when you pretty much 90% only drag race your bike. My bike will have a 4" bolt on extension this season and hopefully an air shifter.

I used to use 17/48. With a lil motor work, my fastest time (so far) is with 17\46. I need to try 17/47, 18/48, 18/49, 18/50, and a few others to be absolutely sure though!!

Eh..if you are extending the arm...you are going to need a new chain anyway.

Id leave the stock 18t front...and just go get a huge mammajamma rear sprocket like a 48 or 50t or bigger.

I like 17/50 on John's bike...I'd have something like a 54 on it IF I was to stay with the 18 on the front...

DJ forgot to mention weight, but he is part of TFA's new division, TMA (for Team Muscular Ass), so he's a pretty big fella. I'm sure he'll not have any problems with shit-talking Busa owners!!

Ya think lower gearing helps for bigger fellas?? Or less gearing??

I am a proud member of TFA, and I bogged really bad off the line with the 17/46. But, I am running the 7" slick on the back.

I would recommend starting with 17/48 at that long wheelbase, should be right on the money. Avoid the smaller 16T front because it will wear out a chain quicker than the 17T or 18T. Whatever advice you take don't make too many gearing changes; pick one and work with it and practice until you feel either comfortable with it or can really determine if it's too much or too little. I see guys swapping gears all time time they have no idea what they are doing and shift blame torwards gearing. Start small and work up, if you're getting wheelies step back. Sometimes less is more when it comes to ET.

17 50 is PERFECT for 1/8-mile...You'll tag the limiter at the END OF THE SPEED-TRAPS in 3rd gear IF you can get up to 120mph...
I've been 5.80s(5.83 5.84 5.86s) @ 122mph...on the limiter for about the last 30-40 feet in the eight

17-50 is also GREAT for 1/4-mile...it's good for 145+ to 155 in 5th gear without hitting the rev-limiter
John weighs at LEAST 210-215...this gearing helped our (I'm 180lbs now) 330foot times which carried to the end of the track...
John has run MANY 9.50 1/4s and LOW 6s in the eight with this gearing...

I agree with avoiding the 16-tooth if possible, even though we DID use it on John's bike over a year ago as a CHEAP way (stock chain length) to try the 5-gear 1/4-mile...
