Best parts washer solvent? Whats the best available? Need something low odor and preferably high flash point.
Using diesel and kerosene now. What else is there for low $$$??

Go to your local Chevron bulk products dealer. You can purchase "solvent" by the gallon. Work's well, doesn't stink up the garage too badly. I think I pay about 6 bucks a gallon. Take an empty container, it is not "packaged". I'm sure other bulk plants have something, but I've just been using Chevron.

That's about the only thing I don't have in my workshop, is a parts washer. Anyone have an idea how much one should cost? Note: I don't need a SnapOn parts washer, just some small thing that works.

Larry,
Harbor Freight has a more than adequate one for about $170. Tank big enough for cases, pump, fire safe lid etc.

A gentleman by the name of big Jim in my town uses an old dishwasher. He says he's never had problem no matter how greasy.

hehe i builtone, using large laundry tub and a few other assorted bits. most expensive part of the rig was the pump. used regular under-sink water filter unit.
prolly about 80 dollars invested in it,works fine
if you can get premade one for 70, that is decent quality, sounds like the deal to go for
as far as solvents go, i haven't had need of anything more robust than simple green..it even cuts the grime on the countershaft cover where the chainlube and other stuff congregates.
Simple green and old toothbrush..friends forever. :-)
another thing i have used with decent results for removing head gasket residue: 'goof off' or 'goo gone' they seem to really do a good job getting the residue off.

Slug, how do you mix the simple green? 50/50?
