OK guys. I'm begining my research on dynos - prolly can never afford a real one, but who knows? Is this a good model to look at?

Dynojet 250. About 20 K gives you the machine, software, cooling fans and a sniffer. Look up dynojet and start from there. They have a hell of a leasing program as well.

The MJP Dyno out of Denmark. They are Manufactured in Phoenix AZ.

This is an "Engine Development Dyno" and is more comprehensive and LESS EXPENSIVE than the "Dynojet".

Check it out at (mjpeng.dk)

So does it directly interphase with and manipulate a Power Commander? Can it or does it work with tuning link?

You hook your pcIII up to a PC just as you would do at home.

The EXTENSIVE gas analyzers on the MJP will tell you where to go.

The MJP also measures power on the fly while the eddie current brake is being applied!! Very important when figuring out your optimum a/f ratio.

"Tuning Link" (which is Dynojet's software)has flaws when finding optimum a/f.

So you can adjust the AF mixture at every throttle position, ie 5%, 10%, 15% ....... to a 100%, and do this in 500 rpm increments?

If the MJP is everything you say where are they? Sounds like some marketing needs to happen.

Yes Z, The MJP gives you the info and the Power Commander Software in the PC allows you to make the changes.

Did you view the website?

You can buy this Dyno and Build your Dyno Room for the same cost as the DJ250 alone!!

Would you have to pay shipping from Denmark or you say they actually build them in the states so they could ship from there?

SOme used DJ 150's for about $5,000 Add the Sniffer and about $7,000 Realize you numbers will read lower until you figure out how to adjust the Temp and Humidity! compared with a DJ 250

Before you buy a dyno you had better make sure what you want it to do and what components you need. It is easy to talk about buying a dyno and then an A/F analyzer and all that. But put it together and suddenly you are talking serious coin.

People can pooh pooh dyno jet and talk about other dyno's but showing me tuning link on thiose units. You can either wear your bike out after tuning it or wear it out tuning it. There are some good used dyno's out there and dyno jet has a pretty good lease program as well.

There is a reason why 99% of the dyno's out there are dynojet. They have spent a fortune on technology, re3search, and put it together in a complete package.

hmm, if dynojet made em like 5K cheaper - I could almost afford it . I just figure that I can get one and tune all my current/future bikes really well. Maybe I just need to win the lottery . I suppose I could put an add in the paper and charge a bit to tune other bikes on the weekend!!!

hehe 60" tv wow...i have a 19"

*sigh*

as far as dynos go, do youw ant it to just read higher numbers, or do you want it to read consistant and realistic numbers?

adjusting and adding in all sorts of factors and adjustments and all seems to be (for me anyway) a waste of time. if you run the bike on X dyno, and mod bike, then re-run on X dyno, it shouldn't matter if it reads 12hp lower then the $45600 dyno. allt hat matters is do you get a consistant read off the dyno you are using to tune with. and if you do, then it willhelp you to determine what your mods do for you, help or hinder.

personally i have had my bike run on factory pro and dynojet both. the factory pro reads lower then the dynojets, but it reads right off back wheel, no 'correction factors' other than atmospheric pressure.
the dynojet numbers i see (esp in magazines) show 8-12more hp stock for the same bike. which is a HUGE jump when you are talking about a 80hp motorcycle. if i was dishonest, id do pre-mod run on FP, then post mod on a DJ. and then say wow look i gained 18HP from XXX pipe and YYY jet kit
heh

anyway the local shop runs dynojet, but the 'cheap' run has no correction factors other than atmospheric, so i get same numbers here as i did on the FP. which makes it useful. i guess a lot of it is the operator, and how much ego-stroking they feel they need to do

i could care less if the bike makes 80 or 95, or 160, as long as it suits MY riding and needs. (and not burning holes in the pistons is a nice bonus too)

as far as tuning on the fly, that is a very cool feature. the question i have on that function: does it compensate for the ram air? ie if you run it on static dyno and get fuel mapping correct for the entire rev range, does it take into account the ram air at higher velocity? as such will it read rich on your dyno, but be fine on the street at triple digit speeds?

interesting topic. i wonder where i would put a dyno.....hrmmmmmmm
heh heh heh

Darn it Slug - now I'm going to need to design a wind tunnel for my DJ-250! LOL - now I know how NASA goes through so much money so fast!!! The real question is - will future bikes all have closed systems that auto-map their computers?? If so, I guess there will be no need for dyno's?

I hear a lot of it depends on the operator. What exactly does that mean? How would an operator stroke someones ego and get real high or deflate someones bike and get real low numbers. I watch my operator do pulls on my bike (dynojet)and he seems to do the same thing every time any thoughts would be appreciated.

There are Dyno's that make "correct" maps for BIG fuel injected bikes.....Then there are some that get close.

A GOOD map takes time and comprehensive equiptment. I have seen first hand how "Tuning Link" does not set up a modified BIG bike with the proper A/F Ratio. It can get close, but by design it can't get it right on.

In the case w/ a buddy of mine who has a 1500cc Eye Abusa, the Dynojet 250 w/ "Tuning Link" map was too lean and he went from 192 h.p. to 217 h.p. buy correcting the A/F Ratio "UNDER LOAD" w/ the MJP.

There is a difference!!

What is becoming very apparent is that I better take some classes if I get a dyno - this looks like a fairly complicated process!!!!! Does MJP have classes like dynojet?
