TPS MAGIC
About a month a go I though I would smooth out my 02 ZX12 by fiddling with the TPS. HA! I read the way to set it was to warm it up, adjust idle to 2000 rpms and adjust the TPS to the point of max rpm increase.
Then I read what the manual and some others on this site said. Used my multi meter and adjusted it to 1.086 vdc. I've had the 12 for 4 years, and it has never been so smooth, crisp throttle, on/off jerk is minimal, and best of all, it hauls ass like never before. Now I'm rethinking the ZX14 I just picked up. I love that feeling of reeling in my friends Busa. He usually gets the jump on me but not tonight!

Yes, I've noticed too that the TPS-setting has much to do how the engine virbrates at certain RPM-range.

do you set the tps voltage with the engine running or off?

It really dosen't matter. Only thing that matters that You have the idle rpm set to 1000RPM, when engine is hot. I usually do it engine running, after I've come riding so engine isn't cold. The reason to set it engine running is that I can adjust the idle if it's off. There is a 5V regulator so the voltage at the sensor dosen't change depending on motor running or not.

well did you ever look at the 5vdc while the engine is running or not and then not running with the headlight on or off with key on? mine changes.

I set the voltage with the engine off. engine fully warned up, key on but engine not running. the adjustment is very sensitive. just tightening the screws moved it out of adjustment.

Mine dosen't change and it really shouldn't because there is a internal 5VDC regulator on ECU that makes that voltage independently of the battery voltage...

on two zx12rs i have messed with the tps.the running tps voltage at idle is different than not running so the 5vdc regulator things did not carry over on the two i looked at.

I've adjusted my TPS a few weeks ago, big difference in how the throttle responds, big improvement!! A worthwhile mod!!

I adjusted according to th link, even I first tested it it was ar1.541, set it to 1,086, n the bike stuttered badly, What m I missing? Does the idle screw need to b backed completely off the throttle? I had it to where the bike was idlingf between 1-1.5k,

that is decieving on "ok i am adjusting my tps voltage to x.xx"
depending where you have the idle screw set to (i know on non stock exhaust setting the idle to the book setting may be or may not be where kawasaki intended the tps reastat to be at)
on a bike with the "hunting idle" i would adjust the idle to where the book says it should be idleing at by putting a rag over the exhaust and corking it up to smooth out the idle. then when the idle rpms are set go and do the procedure again.

yeah its weird, the bike has had an abrupt on n off throttle since like ...... forever, i just was bored n thought i would try the tps n see if it smoothed it out, i always blamed it on the muzzy exhaust, lol

it can be smoothed out but not by tps magic.hold a rag and or leather glove over the end of the can and it will smooth rite out.

i was talkin bout the on/off throttle response being smoothed out but i will try the rag n get it down to 1000 rpm n try to 1.084 it, n see how she goes, lol
