OMFG Dennis...So sorry to hear about that....Sometimes the cover gets cocked onto the locating pin and push`s down/up/sideways and could crack the case`s I guess...... Dammit man,you were almost there on the lockup tuning.....Maybe it can be welded????
Sorry brother......

i talked to someone i race with that works as a susike mechanic for 20 or so years and he said we can get it to stop leaking.
also talked to a friend that has a tig and i may clean it up and cook it to dry it and with the basket out he will see if he can melt it back together with out grinding. that will seal it up.
maybe tomorrow i will take a picture of it and post it.
i am so ready for my duster to get its engine.

here is the damage. it is not fatel but i am wanting to melt it back together with a tig before i contaminate it with epoxy and later decide it needs tiged. now to decide if it needs to be seperated from the engine or do it while together. i have a oil pan gasket so i can take the basket out and drain it and clean and bake the oil out. i may get away with it.
i just do not want to take it out and apart cause that will make me want to degree the cams and race cut the trannnnnny and put the 1270 kit in and sent the head to jim.
so you guys get the idea thet the timing is bad to have the engine out if i have to take the lower case half off.

Doesn't look too bad to my untrained eyes. I am sure it can be done without taking the motor apart.

hardest part will be cleaning up a margin at the crack with no paint and no oil. i may sand it down by hand to controle the flakes.
i am going to use a valve spring pressure tool to get a handle on spring pressure for the clutch to make a good next move on static pressure.

Good picture....Looks better than first explained.....Just burn out all the residual oil and v cut it so it gets good penetration.

Use a can of Good Brake cleaner and remove ALL of the oil, Geat with a Propane torch and clean again. then use a dremmel tool and clean the area about 1/2 inch on Both Sides and Behind after yopu remove everything , spray the Brake cleaner again THEN You may be ready to weld it!

You should post a warning because it Hurts to look at it!

not my bike ship. !!!!!!!!!!!lol i have taken a 78 cb 750f with the chain in the engine and had plates welded in it and remated the halfs. this is a cake walk to that.
i just do not want to take the engine apart and have to dissapoint my self with it going back together stock. we will see. i am dissembling it today and get it looked at to see if i need to take the engine out. i will know by the weekend though i have a navy ship reunion saturday. maybe monday.
vince that is exactly what i was going to do. i love brake cleaner and torches and freezing parts.

That is the very back that got in the way of the transmission gears bouncing around. You can see one of the shifting forks.
