Have heard that also, but none the less I will run them. The reusable filter to me is far more economic. And the better filtration in its self is reason enough to use them, or maybe even the BMC filters...just my opinion....JIm

The only bike I've seen loose power from a K&N filter is the 98-up ZX9R

The 12r does not loose power from K&N's or BMC filters. I've seen a few HP gained across the board on too many 12r's for that to even be close to the truth.

Consider the source of your info. Those guys have no clue about anything.

well I am glad to hear that Y2k, but I was running it regarless, I do it for the effects that it gives, filtrations, reusability, other than HP. I have to say, my 12 makes plenty enough HP for me. Can only use so much in the curves........Jim

Yeah Y2K has it right. Those mags are for "entertainment" value only. Kinda like the Enquirer or Globe.
I think they lost 3hp because they forgot to remove the plastic bags the K&Ns come in...lol

The loss was probably due to all the extra filter oil that is on the K&N filters when new. I'd bet that if they checked after a couple hundred miles that the power would be up from the stock numbers.

I "clean" my K&N's, not a trace of oil in 'em

I remember Doug Meyer posting either here or one of the other ZX12 forums. He mentioned that he and the folks at Muzzy didn't get any HP gains with the K & N's, so they chucked theirs.

After reading that, mine are still in their box.

Even if the filters did make any more ponies I would still have them just for their filtering properties..

I had the shop do before and after dyno runs when they installed my BMC race filters. My bike gained 4hp w/the BMCs.

Wannabe, I think Doug M. was refering to the zx-9. Its well known that the zx-9 likes the stockers. I never heard him say that about the zx12r.

Right,
What I said about about the ZX-12 application was that the filters didn't show any gains, but that they are a good product for other reasons and that I personally run them.

What a coincidence, I just put a set of used but excellent condition K&N filters (for ZX12) on ebay. If anyone is interested it's a no-reserve auction with a buy it now price of $44

I had a 1-2 hp increase with the filters (Not bad for $40 bucks)...

The main reason that we bought them was for better filtration. Previously, there were a few guys that saw dirt / sand that made it thru the stock filters.

I think they are well worth it even if they had 0 hp gains!!

Thanks, folks. I must have misread DM's earlier post. I might just have to take those bad boys out of the box and install them this weekend.
