The don't do anything but block the fresh air passages to the exhaust port and look purty. You can block the passages with an aluminum plug or pipe plug and not use the plates just as well.

i smashed the reed supports flat and flipped them. though you should decide if you are doing the kleen air mod before you flatten the supports. i decided to try it and had to re arch the supports.
