What to look for

Ok so I'm heading out to look at a 2000 zx12r tomorrow and was wondering what things I should pay closest attention to? What are the common problems? If I buy it I have about a seven hour ride home so I want to get this rite. Thanks!

Also the bike has the Corbin saddle bags installed, will these leave scratches?

Look all the usual stuff and check that all recalls have been done (fuel tank, alternator connector, valve stems) Also look for a oil spill on left side near valve cover (usually is the cam-sensor but You may get the price down a little with that. Also check if there is oil in the alternator connector below riders seat.

Thanks a lot, if the recalls haven't been done, can I have them done at a kawi dealer?

Ten years later? I kinda doubt it.
Best thing is to look for a bike with verifiable low mileage. Don't expect a ten year old bike to be perfect. They are not worth a lot of money anyway, so probly not fair to beat someone down on the price, unless it has major faults andf if it does, I'd go look at a different one.
Any little things wrong, you'll just have to deal with them yourself.

Only the recall wich fixed the problem with fuel tank would be an issue because the valve stems are probably changed anyway or at least should be... Also the alternator connector may still be bad even if they have had the recall and You can fix it Yourself. But the fuel tank can cause You loose money if You need to change it... But of course it is an old bike but there are still clean ones out there so It won't be a new but try to find one as close to it as possible....

make sure you ride the bike because those year model transmission are known to be weak---the bike will feel like it jumping out of gear----from 1st to 2nd

check the little clips that hold the tail on behind the seat. also I'd check the seat with a black light for "bodily fluids"
