I believe John posted a narrative on LABusa sometime back. You should be able to search it.

Thats the one Dave. I believe it does have a remote antenna option available.
The base Garmin "Etrex" is just that. Its yellow in color. The other models like Summit, Venture, etc are units that have different features available like more accurate elevation locations, etc.
I typically mount the GPS to the "ashtray" as the Muzzy dampner takes up the space on the triple clamp.

Are you sure you mean the 12 ? I thought they used the III or the V because of the external antenna.

In May of 2001, I ran my Stock 00' 12 w/ stock gearing, Muzzy pipe, PCIII, Fresh tires and no Mirrors to a speed of 195.8 mph. This was verified by both a GPS and a Radar Gun (Paul Dean w/ Cycle World Mag.)
At the time, the engine was makeing 173 hp on DynoJet's Dyno in Las Vegas.
My limiter kicks in at 11,750 rpm. (Acctual tach reads 12,250 "On Dyno")
Dyno top speed at the limiter is 197.8 mph.
Speedo at that Road Speed is beyond 210 mph, but it's hard to see in detail.
This was done on a TWO mile strech of SMOOOTH divided hwy. out in the Arizona Desert at @ 5 am. 1st. mile is used to get up to speed and the second mile to extract any extra mph that I could. Our air quality that am was about 2,200 ft. Air due to the fact it had rained the night before.
I feel (especially after talkng w/ Doug M. afterwards) that if my "Ram-Air" system was sealed up better AND if the air quality was a lower mean elevation I could have gone 2 mph faster or so.
I was only showing 11,500 or so on the tach at that speed, so I had some room before the limiter.
Also..The "fresh" tire makes a difference on the overall gearing.

I guess I oughta post mine, just to make everyone feel good (for the holidays, ya know?)
169.7 according to both my Sigma and Garmin GPSIII. With the regearing I had at that time (+1 in back), the bike's speedo was indicating around 185. Since I switched to a 17 (-1) up front, The fastest has been 166.6 (666?).
It boils down to a combination very few straights longer the a mile that I'd consider but "safe" and "cop free" and more importantly... even smaller balls.

hey Rac, if you are in the market for a good GPS, the Garmin 12 is a good one, but if ya go with that, get the XL model.....the Etrex is another good one. I have also use the Magellan 310 and 315. all worked fine. I will tell ya that none of them work on the inside of a Blackhawk helicopter. But all work on the inside of my truck. Of the GPS's around here in Kuwait that are being used, the Etrex and the Magellan 12 are the most popular. I am currently using the 12. but I recommend that if ya buy that one, spend the money on the 12volt power cord too, that thing eats AA batteries.....Jim

the fastest speed I have seen on my speedo is 195, on my stock 02, with the speedo error in effect I am guessing around 180 or so......
