I have run 316 kmh which is about 196,5 mph, measurement was made by policeradar in topspeedhappening. Acceleration distance was little below a mile. Bike had full Akra, dry shot#36, Yoshi EMS and 18/44 gearing.

I looked @ a copy of my last Dyno, and as close as I can tell, my rev limiter kicked in @ +- 11500 rpm.

Well I was informed on this board when I first got my 12, not to worry about redling it for a second or so cause the revlimiter kicks in.

So when the 12 is redlining...at what rpm does the rev-limiter actually kick in? If that makes any sense....

I've seen (can't really read the speedo very good @ speed) something like ~210 indicated; wild guess is a real 185 w/stock gearing. It won't go any faster in the wind; kept it there for 3-4 miles & that was all she would do with a ~10mph headwind. Was like running into a "wall;" wouldn't go any faster...

I'd like to see that ticket too, I'm sure that was worth keeping.

I once got pulled over on my 12 in Idaho over this last summer. Sheriff tagged me at 171mph in a 60. I was riding with about seven other sportbikes, we all pulled over, and was waiting for the Man when he came around the corner. He was hella cool though. Just was a stickler about our endorsements, and was cool. He didnt give me a ticket. I begged and pleaded for a copy of the readout showing he tagged me at 171 and he said he couldnt give it to me. If word ever got out I was pulled over for that fast without a citation issued, he would get in trouble.

I'm not too interested in quarter mile times or anything....but I'm curious on what is the fastest top speed someone has gone on their 12?

My personal best is 204.72226 MPH followed up with a 204.22983 MPH in the standing-start one-mile measured by East Coast Timing Association at Maxton. The bike was still building speed going thru the timing traps to the tune of 3 mph in the last 66 feet so who knows what is actually possible on the street if measured with a GPS device (I don't own one but if someone wants to loan me a GPS I'll gladly find out). My best official "full timing course" average speed is 202.899 MPH and also on all-motor speed of 202.593 MPH. For more information on ECTA Lnad Speed Racing visit their website at http://www.ecta-lsr.com.

Ops must have let out slightly before the end of the traps or adjusted my body position otherwise not sure why it fell off on exit..

194 on a dyno aint 194 on the road

In my personal experience we also hit a 194 limiter on the dyno using stock gearing. At Maxton I managed 192.575 MPH with 167~169 RWHP on a stock motor 2000 ZX12R with Muzzys pipe and no powercommander. Only other mod was the factory airfilters were modified to remove the element and leave only the "screens". Backed it up with a 191.326 MPH pass this was with good weather conditions. Of course this is with stock gearing. Not sure exactly what is possible in perfect conditions with "other than stock" gearing on the bike.

Actually at the time I signed it as not guilty, mailed in as required by Washington State Law. Turned to my Attorney and let him handle it. I did not keep my 164 mile an hour one nor my 153 miles an hour car ticket. The motorcycle tickets were both handled by my attorney. The car one I picked up about eleven years ago outside of Vegas in a rented Ferarri. Paid the fine and Nevada never eported it to Washington so it never showed on theDrivers License!

I have to take my hat off to Bergie as he has hit 204 in astanding start mile! I made my runs in Eastern Washington on long straight aways with lots of room to run onto the straight away. There is an area in Eastern Washington referred to as the Prosser Hill. Essentially it is a cut-off that goes up over a big hill (guys back East might call it a Mountain . Andyway once on top there are three 5 mile straightaways. The straightaways a re connected by 80 to a 100 mile an hour curves. Lots of room to run it up and slow down. Not to mention some real long straights on I90.

I refuse to strap a GPS on my bike unless it can operate in the trunk. Which I don't beleive it will. Although I guess I can go over to the air club and take the plane out for a few flights and show you all any speed you want!

I hope to hit Binneville once or twice next year to see what she will do on the salt.

ZH..why the refusal of strapping a GPS? And WHERE in Eastern Washington is the place referred to as Prosser Hill?

We goto a point called Lower Granite, which runs along the Snake River, about twenty minutes East from Pullman. It's a forty-mile stretch of pure straightway, high cliffs on the left take care of any wind to worry about, while the river on the right gives off enough cool air which is great for the intakes.

Wait I'm confused here- why would it work okay inside an aircraft but not inside a plastic tailsection of your bike? Sorry I don't know anything about GPS.

Mine works in the tail section, and in the pocket on my jacket but I'd probably want it outside with a clear view of the sky to make sure I got the best reception possible. Route tracking is ok with a few skipped beats, but clocking top speed you would want every one. I usually mount mine on top of the triple clamp so it's visible while you are riding.

It also works on a plane (commercial aircraft) but it will only work near a window. Too much metal in those planes, I suspect in a bug smasher would work sitting on the dash.

You'd have to rent a faster plane than mine. My 12 is faster than my cessna. If I flew my plane at 200mph, the wings would fall off.

Couldn't tell you precisely but I will test this for you next time we go to Maxton. Remind me as the time comes I will have a lot of testing to do!

I went 177.816 MPH with no-bodywork. As you can see that's a solid 25 MPH slower without fairings vs. with fairings on the same day, same bike, same gearing, same rider.

Its hard to believe that little plastic makes a huge difference but it does. Aero is the biggest factor in top speed not so much power. I've seen guys with 200+ hp going slower than stock motor bikes. Hell I've even seen a 280hp turbo Hayabusa going slower than a stock 12R but that's rider.. the same bike went 208mph with a different rider. Those turbo guys have balls man I've seen them go 216 mph with a 12~15mph headwind and also seen 234mph on a 400rwhp turbo hayabusa ridden by steve knecum at maxton that dude is the man.. he currently "owns" the maxton mile and probably will for a long time.. can't imagine shutdown at those speeds!!

Berg, you can use mine if you like..hehe.
Walmart or Sports Authority have some instock.
I had the Summit, but I dropped it and cracked the lense. Traded it for some parts. I have the Etrex and it works just as well, just doesnt have the elevation features.
I use a stem stand to mount it. The Garmin 12 is preferred by 9/10ths guys cause it works in the tail section of the bikes. The etrex may work sometimes, just not as reliable covered up.
Wonderful little device though. Kinda like having the ECTA in your pocket...so to speak...lol

TB,

Are you sure you mean the 12 ? I thought they used the III or the V because of the external antenna.

The 12 looks like this:

Here's a V (5).

There are also mutiple versions of the Etrex so saying Etrex doesn't always mean the same thing. I have the Etrex Vista, it's the high end Etrex with the mapping.

You can compare all this stuff at http://www.garmin.com/ , it's a great site for GPS info. For pricing check out GPS City, http://www.gpscity.com/ but there are other places too.

Sorry for highjacking the thread beans.

So I guess my 205+ is still the fastest "on motor" on the board, right?
Speedo shows over 220 but I usually keep it taped over 'cause it's distracting.
You guys do know that John Noonan went 242 (!!!) on his Turbo 'Busa at The Salt last fall.
