Electric probs
Hi all,
Ive been racking my brains for a week now, on a problem that has me stumped,
It started when I couldnt start my 12 with it in gear, and clutch pull in,
it then started to drain my battery, and then I couldnt start her, (this happened on a vey cold morning)
I had my battery replaced, and cleaned all of my conection, it started ok, , but when i tried to start it with it in gear, and clutch pulled in, it would start, but the headlights wouldnt come on... if i turn the ignition off and took it out of gear it would start again and this time the headlight would come on as well.
also i noticed the battery would lose power very quickly if i started in gear, and cluth pulled in.
I have pulled apart the clutch switch, and cleaned, and stil this problem continues,,
any ideas??

Are You sure that the clutch-switch works even if You cleaned it? Check also Gear Position sensor and check Your alternator voltage and the connector below seat. Sound like You have a charging problem. Also check the side stand switch... What is Your battery voltage when engine is running - should be ~14V.

I can start the bike in gear (clutch -switch working) but the headlights wont come on,
If i then start the bike out of gear, the headlights come on,

If you have a manual, look at the junction box diode check.
I think the diodes play a part in the starter interlock circuit.
Or at least one of them do.

check the V out of the rectifier, then check at the battery, both should be near 14 at 4K

Yes it should be near 14V, not 12.9-13.0V. Also if the switch helped I've had to sometimes use punch and a hammer to make the clutch switch contact little bigger or higher so it makes a better contact. Check also the primary voltages from the alternater. Don't remember straight but they are something like 100VAC or higher. Maybe one of the third coils has broken because it can't make voltage. Also check tho connector below seat on left side. It's know to collect oil and melt if nothing is done.

just for shits n giggle i went out n measured the voltage at the battery while idling an it was 13.6, at 4k it was reading 13.20 or so, when i put a load on it (fan switch) at idling it went to 13.9, where r yall getting the 14 at 4k from? N please dont say i'm bout to run into another issue!

14V is what it should "ideally" be but about 13-15V is between the limit. If it's lower You got a problem. Also when idling and putting a load will drop it a little but with raise in RPM should be back to near 14V.
