Maybe a silly question about oil!
I've asked this question on another site. But I wanted to hear what some of you think. I'm getting ready for a oil change. I've never done this on my bike. I usually have it taken in for service before I take her out in the spring.
To make a long story short my bike guy's place went out of business. So I'm doing my own service this year. I have a case of Shaffer's 9000 full synthetic 5W 30 laying around. It's the only thing I use in my truck and car. I was wondering if it would work ok in the 12? If so it would be great for me if I could simply by this oil by the case for all of my vehicles!
I was looking around on schaffer's site and they do suggest the 5W 30 for motorcyles. But I know that may not include the twelve.
so at this point I was wondering if someone runs 5W 30 if so what are the results. I also want imput from those who think this is not a good idea.
Thanks

I ran my Zx12 on Rock Oil fully synthetic XRP 5w/30 for two years hard use with no issues, motor has now been stroked and bored to 1390cc and I have changed over to Rock oil Synthesis 15w/50 because I get that in 5 gallon drums for the other turbo bike.
The 5w/30 looks a bit thin but works fine as its a fully synthetic and the clutch works fine too.
I would check if your oil has any friction modifiers that could spoil your clutch, some automotive oils can do this,Rock Oil is motorcycle specific in the above grades.

if you want to go thin go to rotella 5w40 synthetic diesel oil. lots of people have been using it. look in your owners book if it says 5w30 then good to go. if not for me i do not know but i will not do it.
