F&F meets the Busa & 12R in new movie

Sadly, all I see is another flick that will result in another slam against our already troubled reputation and higher insurance rates due to the increased number of dead wannabe squids.
Sure, F&F was "entertaining", but I didn't go out and put NOS on my late bro's Talon. It seemed I was in the minority. The "performance" ricer car market and street racer scene has grown multi-fold since the first F&F came out (a second F&F is in the works in Miami) and has reach even the most smallest and rural of communites.
You can't tell me that the same isn't gonna happen to the hyperbike world with this flick. What makes this worse is that these kids had to spend $$$ to just get a "ten second" car. With the 12Rs and Busas, they are already starting off with a NINE SECOND bike. Can you say "insurance rates through the roof and more hassles from the man"? I knew you could.
Ambulance crews will have to start carrying spatchulas to scrap the pukes up off the pavement. Thanks Larry and Kid Rock for setting back the sportbike rider's world in a way that we may never be able to recover from. Look how long it took the bike world to recover from one staged photograph from Hollister (and later, Brando and Marvin's "hip cat" movie).

They could have done without Kid Rock in it, Lawrence F. should be cool to see though.
Those are some sick lookin' paint jobs on some of those bikes. I like.

naw, but the resulting aftermath will prolly be names "SquidWatch 2002" by the media :o
seriously tho, i would really like to see the govt take a more proactive approach to this. build some new tracks (especially drag strips) and charge a really low admission fee. right now its just too damn expensive to go to a track unless you're REALLY serious into the sport & have some cash to spare. of course draggin isn't all that expensive as it is. there are some friday night drags here where u get on board for $10 i believe (buys u 3 to 5 trips down the strip). a proper track is what i'd like to see. i can't afford over $100 fer a day, especially not on top of the cost of the bike & gas & tires etc. now granted, u could make it free & u still wouldn't get everyone off the streets, but u'd get the majority, and then u could clamp down on street racing as much as u want without too many complaints/backlash from teh public. it's just about gettin people, especially teens & other non-brained varieties, off the street & into a safer arena. plus it's safer for the general public as well. as for the cost, i truly believe u could build a track WAY cheaper than is usually done, and thus charge well under half & still break even. especially true if the govt already owns the land & isn't lookin to make a profit. skip the announcing/scoring towers & all that fancy stuff. don't need top condition surface either, since this is meant for people who use public streets otherwise. any non-potholed and gravel strewn surface is gonna be an improvement over the street. besides, consider the cost of the accidents that occurr on the street. damage to lightposts, buildings, dead people, the cost of the cops to clean up the mess...hell, u save the cost of one accident & u prolly pay for 6 months of an entire track (that's an uneducated guesstimate btw). but u'd prolyl never convince the public of that

you can count on insurance rates getting even worse. I wouldn't be suprised to see a public out cry to remove "race replica" bikes from circulation. I can hear the safetycrats now..."no one needs to go that fast or have a machine that powerfull." or "you shouldn't be able to out run the police."
Oh well, just keep trying to educate those that you know that not all Bikers that ride "street legal race bikes" are idiots.

Well put freek, some excellent ideas for sure. I'd love to have access to a road course that wasn't an 8+ hour drive away. That'd freakin' rule!!!

Shoot I'm going to be the first in line!!! I can not wait to see this movie. and I really dont think our insurance rates will be effected that much, How many 18yr olds do you know that have a 12?? not many I think most of the "squids" are out there are doing stoppies and wheelies and already out there hasseling the man. all it is going to do is allow more kids to get "cages" due to there parents thinking whoo. motorcycles are dangerious, and cars are safe, More import car sales, Im going to believe. Mad Mike
oh and if it leads to more motorcycle Drag Racers!!! I for one am up for the competition!! Yeaaa, Yeaaa, Bring it on!!!!

excellent point worm~hole! didn't even cross my mind. i t would definitely be in the best interests of the manufacturers to sponsor track days. shouldn't cost them very much compared to regular advertising either (i'm guessing).

That scene they show 2 motorcycles on a dirt road, where the girl drops the flag for the race. Freeze frame shows Lawrence Fishburne rides the Busa while the black actor rides the 12.
Then that 12 rider has his mom bitch him out for riding motorcycles.
Then on the gallery page, Lawrence Fishburne is walking from a graveyard. Makes me think the 12 rider eventually dies in the movie.
And that flip top helmet they show Fishburn slap on has to be a Nolan or similiar knockoff, but either way, not a helmet for the serious rider.
Not one sign of Vanson, some cool lookin leathers nonetheless.
No sign of Vin Diesel either, lol. Or Britney Spears for that matter.

I would like to see the movie also, but I will have to wait for it to come out on DVD over here.. I am not sure what to think about what will happen to our sport...I guess all any of us can do is sit back and watch.. Tell ya what I am waiting for though, is for Cycle World to do a story on the best riding roads in the US... I have sent an email or 50 to them but I still havent seen it yet.

They should build a 40-mile stretch of the most perfectly paved straightaway in each one of the lower 48 states, for anyone to ride on day or night, hee hee.
And a 4-mile oval loop that banks so high, you have to be going 130mph at bare minimum otherwise you will fall down the bank.

Anyone seen that new article on the Hayabusa vs. ZX-12R?? It's in the current issue of one of those UK motorcycle magazines. I had never noticed it before, that specific UK magazine, saw it for a second at BarnesandNobles the other day, didnt catch the name of the mag.
Funny read still. Something about UK motorcycles always getting reviewed with the optional cowling off and passenger seat baring on all their bikes.
In the event someone was to move to Australia (or any other country for that matter), is it wise to ship your 12 and ride it or get another bike when you move? I know the warranty is void when you move, but are there any differences in an Australian 12 and an American one?

This movie is going to be like all of the other nonsensical action adventures films made. It's strictly for entertainment purposes. If streetracing and stunt riding along with the requisite scenes of over-the-top bravo is entertaining to you then check it out.
Most of us dragracers were on the streets before we ever went to the track. Insurance rates suck right now today for anyone with a bike that can get out of its own way. This flick won't change a thing.
Maybe the end result will be better participation and support for the aftermarket products we need to go fast reliably. It's would be great to have a 7 second dragbike that you can ride through the mountains to the track and kick ass when you get there.
In the end, it's just another B film with fleeting entertainment value.
