Bellingham, Washington. Way up in the northwest just about to the Border. You guys in Florida and Cali. etc. have it pretty rough with that winter weather down there. I am just getting the feeling back in my fingers from a ride to and from work today, Think the T-mometer said 38 or so this morning. I blew up the trans in my truck and am stuck with only my bike. I am kind of glad to get in some forced riding time this late in the year.

Losing respect ? I'm not sure I had any to begin with.

I've had some nasty slimy ones too but the good ones are good, you just have to know where to find them. That applies to oysters too !

Ted, I said the SAME THING when I first tried them. I am originally from L.A. and I would never had considered that an edible form of legume. Roasted, preferrably at a Dodgers game, was the best!

But one night passing through Alabama, and starving, I chowed down on some and man, they were surprisingly tasty. But they are not a ...'baseball game'... kind of snack. It is an acquired taste. Compare it to a boiled vegetable rather than a roasted and dried one.

More like... 'driving down the road, hey let's stop at a roadside stand for a snack' .... kind of snack. They are big here in the south, at all the farmer vegetable stands.

It's best when they are boiling in a big black pot over a wood fire by the side of the road, and they dip in and pull you out a big hot fresh bag of them.

Been hooked since I tried them, but the taste is NOT like the roasted version. It is more like a 'black-eyed-peas' taste, kinda earthy and natural. It is not bad, just not what you expect from a snack we usually eat roasted and dried.

And GASSEY. If you wanna build up for a farting contest, that's a sure way to do it. That's why they make such a fun 'automobile' food item. About 30 minutes after stopping for the nuts, all the windows need to come D-O-W-N in the car ....... whew!! messy, smelly and satisfying!! sorta like sex .....
