ZX-12 vs GSXR 1k

ZX-12 vs GSXR 1k thread on Labusas/gsxr page has published evidence of the GSXRs superiority over the 12. Also claims that stock to stock any GSXR will beat a 12 to 170 mph. I've only raced 1 GSXR 1k, and even though I let him get the jump on me, I was able to catch and blow by him. I was wondering if anybody else had any experience with a GSXR?

Totally agree!!!!! I rode one and while it had nice power I found it rather docile below 10000 rpms. Not even close to teh grunt of the 12. Great bike though.

Yep......

The 1k is an awesome little bitch if you keep her buzzed up. But it ain't the brute the 12 is when it comes to outright acceleration. A fine machine though. After just a few minutes on one, I became very comfortable with it. A definite hoot to ride.

My brother has an 01 model and he and I traded for a while one day while out riding. the gixxer was a hoot in the corners, but it had to be wound up unlike the 12 that will pull from a lot lower rpm's. I found the gixxer very uncomfortable to ride, to much of a crouch for me to spend a lot of hours in the saddle of. He and I have been know to pull hard off lights and mess with each other, but never has he won a sprint, and he cant stay in front of me in the twisties either......

Read your post on the other side. The GSXR is the fastest of the liter bikes, and if what I hear is true, it will be even faster in 03.

Thanks for sticking up for us

Again, rider skill.I would REALLY love to have a 1K,but seriously, Gixxer's.If ya want to spank everything out there, get the 12.If it's too much bike to handle, put dogbones out back and slide the forks up a bit to make it little like a Gix.
Once in a while, some guy weighing 105 with leathers, will get a good launch at the drags and post a hot time/speed that 12's do regularly.
If I had the bucks, there would be the hot little Gix next to the 12 in my shed.Thing's so light,I could hang it next to my mountain bike!

The GSXR 1000 is a cery fast bike. In bone stock form against a bone stock 12 the 12 will pull the GSXR. Most of the GSXR's running around out there usually have a piupe and the limiter removed. They are pretty serious then. My GSXR with a Yosh full Ti system, K&N filters, and the zivan timing retard eliminator on it pulls 154 hp at the rear wheel. It weighs 417 punds filled to the brim with gas. A bone stock 12 ranges from 156 to 168 rear wheel horsepower depending on where it is at in break in how it was broken in etc. The bone stock 12 weighs in at 564 pounds full of gas. Doing the math a piped GSXR 1000 puts out nearly as much horsepower as the bone stock 12 and weighs 147 hp less. Using 7 lbs equal 1 hp that is approx. a 21 hp difference in weight.

The facts are don't under estimate the GSXR1000. As I have posted before don't let the GSXR set the terms for the race. And the guys that are letting the GSXR go and then catching it you either live where the road has no end or the GSXR has let off. I love my 12 but don't mistake the potencey of the GSXR 1000.

Its peppy...and depending on the rider can certainly embarass a 12 or busa from a roll.

However its the exception...not the norm.

Put a 110lb guy on an R1 and a 300lb guy on a busa and go from 50mph...I bet the busa gets destroyed "Till about 170"

You're where I hope to be soon,ya got both of 'em.
That's all so true, what ya said.
Seems I can make up some of the weight diff. coming of the line hard. The 12 does'nt come up as easily as the light ones.By the time we're both back down,I'm already ahead, and into the revs. Then forget about it.
If I'm behind,it takes like 1/8 mile to reel 'em in.And that was an '02 R1!So a Gix would give ya serious prob's with a jump!
I've never seen that guy since the Akro Race,K&N's,PC.Quite a bit stronger now ;0)

The 12 does have the advantage from a light or standing start. They are easier to launch. I find myself on the GSXR forgetting that I am in a race and not a wheelie contest!

HP's are not all it's realy depending on all overall thing.
Torque+ acceleration+ HP'S.

On racing the bike with the most HP's doesn't necessary win..

When he's done riding it the first thing he says is WOW, now I know why you smoke me,,,,,your bike is faster for sure,,,,,,my reply,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I KNOW! LOL

Zhoo,
the GXSR I caught was 1 down and 2 up. I blew by him just after shifting into 4th or 5th (can't remember which). And yes, this was a long long long stretch of road.

Z, I think ALOT of guys mistake the gear to be in when racing a 1k. I know I did. I figured Id go from a 3rd gear rollon on (GSXR owner set the terms)
Well, our 3rd gear ratio is like their 5th gear. Put the bikes in the same "power delivery" area and the 12 runs away.
I realize the 1k is a potent bike and give props to the guys that ride them, but they are NOT a dragrace bike by far. I could holeshot just about any stock height/wheelbase 1000 fairly easy and the race is over.

I must be missing something. I have been to the World Finals for 2 years now. There were dozens of 12's in the nines. Only 1 (one) G1K barely made it into the nines by .01 seconds during Friday's qualifying. I hear all the stories, the mighty 1K's, why don't they show up? Do the 1 K's have there own tracks and sanctioning bodies? Is their track only an 1/8 mile? I agree that the 1 K's are fast but give me a break. The hottest 1 K in town has been MIA for 3 months now trying to get enough power to beat slightly modified 12's. I had pesonally seen this bike in my mirrors more than a couple of times. Respect the 1 K sure, but fear it not.

Sounds good blink. People don't buy a GSXR1000 for the drag strip. That said the horsepower and facts don't lie. Your skill on the drag strip against a street rider at the drag strip doesn't count. Rickey Gadson on a 600 embarasses about 99% of the rest of us regardless of the size of the bike. That means what? He is a better rider then us at the drag strip.

And as stated above for drag racing the 12 is a better platform. Just as the busa is a better platform as well. On the street the GSXR will match up with you just fine. And the question was more about stock or minor mods. All those 12's in the 9's are of course bone stock, not lowered, no extended swing arms and or wheelie bars. Kind of like comparing a viper with a ferarri. Both are real fast and compete with one another in a straight line. At the end of the straightway where the curves begin the competition is over.

my buddy on 02 1k and me on 02 12r.he has TRE,yosh slip on and and one other small mod i don't remember.I have yosh slip on.up to about 130-140 it's close after that no contest and he will agree.we were recently cruising on interstate around 80 mph when he suddenly dropped a couple gears and bolted.By the time i reacted he had pulled a good 50 -60 yards ahead.I went down a couple and layed down.Almost immediatley the distance visibly started shortening. It took im guessing a mile maybe a hare more but i caught him and passed.I weigh 240 he weighs 175.He said his speedo was showing 181 and he saw me coming fast in his mirror. The gixxer is not built to run with the 12 .It is one badass track bike that is light with very good horsepower and handles like a laser on rails but when it comes to straight out speed it will NOT run with the 12 stock to stock.More than horsepower is working in our favor, its the drag co-effiecent.Our 12's were designed in a wind tunnel as was the busa.Fortunatly for us,Kawasaki put a hotter engine in the 12 to make up for that ugly ass beak on the busa for it has better drag numbers than the 12 by a hare.At speeds over 160, aero package is just about as important as horsepower
