Help, No Start
Hello everyone,
I have an 02 ZX12R. The battery ran down and I installed a charger and recharged the battery. Yes, I installed charger correctly. Now battery is charged and engine cranks over fine but will not fire off. Not even a sputter. 2 things I noticed right away is the fuel pump is not running for the 2 seconds with key on and also FI light is not self testing, FI light does flash during cranking.. I checked fused under tank cover and all were ok. Is there other fuses for the ECM? My kawi dealer here is Goodtimes and those ^%&^%*&^ SUCK!!! They treat you like a step child.. I would put the bike in the trash before I take back to them. And I bought the bike there.. Nice huh.

Check the fuse near the battery???? Maybe the battery STILL doesn`t have enough to start the bike......

I have a 2000 and you can get into dealer mode by grounding the single lead on the right side of the ecu for 2 secondsmode 1 will show current problems for the ecu. and mode 2 will show corrected fault codes stored by the ecu this will show you where to start as no voltage or signal to a certain component count the flashes on the fi light 1 long and 2 short will show and be code 12 and 2 long and 3 short would be code 23. hope this helps

Thank you for the relpies, I had a chance today to look at the bike. I stripped the tank cover off and did another insepection on fuses and main fuses in battery box, all checked ok. Attempted to ground the diagnostic lead and no response at the FI light. Really could use a wire diagram to do some testing at ECU and fuel pump...
Thanks
PS.. Started new thread looking for diagram info.

Are You sure that the battery is OK? Normally if battery runs down it's time for new battery. Just charging it dosen't make it workable... And couple easy checks: You're in neutral and not pulling the clutch?

Engine cranks over fine, just wont start.. FI light does not come on and fuel pump does not sound off for 2 deconds when key is turned on like it should.. Its possible the ECU failed or a relay but without the wire diagram Im just guessing..

Check also ignition lock. If the extra resistor isin't making contact it works like that... But be sure to try it in neuitral and not touching clutch. That way it dosen't matter if the clutch switch is broken...

Ok, purchased a factory service manual on ebay. Found the problem, I let the smoke out of the ECU and looking for a 21175-1089 ECU came in 02*03 12s.. Anyone have a spare and need some change??

Well, I feel a bit silly to say this becuase of what i do for a living but I have a jump on my battery for quick charging with a trickel charger. I hook my charger up backwards for about 2 seconds and thats all it took.. A very costly stupid mistake...
