Well, the sheet metal work is done.
The sheet metal work consisted of L and R front floor pans, lower windshield panel, front floor brace, full trunk floor and 4 trunk braces, L & R trunk fillers, L & R outer wheel houses, rear window panel, rear tail panel, and Both rear (full) quarter panels. Its the most welding I've done in a long time. The Miller got a workout.
The frame is also finished and painted with all new SS brake and fuel lines, body bushings, polyurathane suspension bushings and front end.
Heres a shot of the ZZ-502 engine in a mockup assembly to check several things.
This project is starting to get fun again now.

Datsun! lol I hear those 240z's in good shape bring big coin now a days!
Z, its gonna be tough to get it to hook-up. I'm going to change the instant center by using Hotchkiss control arms. They are 1/2" shorter and the chevelle boys swear by them.
My biggest fear is my wife distroying the origonal M21 power shifting it.
Those old muncies arnt made for the kind of abuse this car is going to get this summer. I'm going to make her promise not to powershift it.
I think I'm still going to just put a 2,700 LB. factory style diaphram pressure plate in the car. That way the clutch will slip if she gets to hostile with the thing. She drove a C dragster for 5 seasons 20 years ago and still likes to get the power down to the asphault.

Jim,
Can ya find a rockcrusher for it and save the M21?
I was curious if you bought the "Deluxe" engine or short block assembly.
I've been thinking of going with the cast head 450 horse 502, quite a bit of price difference and I'm just a poser anyway!
I swapped from a LS-6 cam to a Lunati hydraulic (single pattern 550" lift & 235 @ .050" duration) got tired of adjusting those solid lifters and this cam turns up better anyway plus with the lobe seperation at 108, it sounds good.

Dan, The m-22 route is a possability. I have other muncies that I was thinking of scabing the best condition parts from and then getting the complete 15 degree gear set. Its about $800 for all 5 gears. But the case is still the weak link. I've stretched muncie cases before. After a while the counter shaft moves away from the main shaft and the whole assy gets sloppy. So maybe a super T-10 or a Richmond 5 speed?
Yea, I got the "Delux". it was on sale from Chevrolet from 10/1 to 12/1 last year and saved $500. Shipping was $75 so the total from Scoggin Dickey was $6,500.
The 450 hp 502 is a sweet setup. It has the rectangle ports and can be tweaked nicely to make 550 hp on pump gas.
Dan, I have a 383 SB for sale. It was in this chevelle for several years.

Know what you mean bout trannies. I built a '68 Mustang with a '70 351HO motor. No probs till I put the four link rear susp in. Then I started breaking trannies. Went through three toploaders in a couple months before I got a workable drivetrain put together.

Yea, and the top loaders are stronger! Well most are.
Heres some more recent pics...
Hotchkis control arms and swaybars...
Notice the belhousing has been plasma trimed to remove the BOP bolt pattern and painted chassis black. I had to trim the scatter shield lip, to allow the oil filter to be accessable. Also the Hooker comp headers have flanges that dont fit the 502 head bolts. the headers had to be ground in 8 places 1/8"
The Dr.Gas X pipe and dynomax ultraflows. 1100 cfm each out of a 2-1/2" glass packed muffler!
500 HP only requires about 600 cfm each.
Flow masters are in the 400 cfm range each.
Cant have those. Besides these sound deeper and "rumble" more. After all its a Big Block it should sound like one.
Right before the body went back on for the last time. Had it on and off about 6 times total. ____________

Ba, whats your project? Or whats it going to be?
I just noticed the scratches in the front cross member from the floor jack.
Guess I'll have to touch it up when i'm done moving it around. ____________

It's a 69 Camaro RS, expecting an LS1/6speed,.....already has Ford 9" from Currie, with Winston Cup style posi (Diamond Trac), aluminum center section and pinion support. I basically paid twice as much for the rear end (with disc brakes) than I originally paid for the car back in '85!!
Have all new glass in storage, new console, new dash/gauges, etc.
Lots of suspension pieces, with more coming!
I'm thinking about running the 3" L88 style hood and the normal stripes on it. Not sure of color yet. Deep, deep "forest" candy green and Silver both keep popping up in my head.....
I'll *try* to get pictures up.........but we all know I suck at that......
I saw those scratches too but didn't want to knock a player, ya know! heheh

Yea, The floor jack does a number on paint. Its from moving the chassis back and fourth under the body with the floor jack. It will be jacked up from there once in a while anyway so it will just happen again anyway but...
Thats right, a 69 rs, I remember now. I should have just read back a few posts. Sounds like a nice setup.
YCIS, I found a few salvage yards that have complete LS-1/6 speed combos with computer and all sensors for $3500-$4500.
