Another 1287 question

I believe this has been discussed in the passed but can't find the answer.
I am hoping to go to Loring for some top speed work in July. I want to degree in my cams. My bike is a 1287 what would be the best setting for that venue?
???????????? 105.5/100 or 105/107 ?????????

Hey Capt......

Are you running stock cams?

I'm sure there's gonna be different answers from different people because of what's been tried with different combinations.

I believe the majority will agree that 105/105 has been proven well, I'm thinking that's what Muzzy recommended. I ran 105/100 and it has worked good for me over the years.

Yes, Stock cams
105/105 I believe to be a good all-round setting.
I was just thinking there would be a setting that work best for top speed runs.

A go kart racer with zx12R engines ran 105/107. 105/105 is good as well.

typically better peak power/high rpm power is made with a bigger numbers. i think carpenter has used 110 110 on a lot of his high hp builds. for street driving its well worth it to get extra tq instead of a couple hp. for example 105 100. I have used 104 105 and 104 107 at the drag strip where i want peak power. seems to work well. around 105 105 will serve you well, maybe closer to what i run for top speed

It's been a long time since I degreed mine in but if I remember right the stock setting was 104/102.
My 105/100 carried power good up top and flattened out right at the stock rev-limit, never did nose over. I ran 202 at Maxton with just a pipe, PC, base gasket removed, head cleaned up very little and cam timing. It never really felt softer down low, my son went a 9.30 on it with stock arm & foot shifting so it still accelerated pretty good.
YMMV........
Good luck,
Dan
