Dear Terrorists

I am a Naval Aviator. I was born and raised in a small town in New
England. I come from a family of five. I was raised in a middle class
home and taught my values by my mother and father. My dad worked a series
of jobs in finance and my Mom took care of us kids. We were not an overly
religious family but attended church most Sundays. It was a nice small
Episcopal Church. I have a brother and sister and I am the youngest in my
family. I was the first in many generations to attend college.

I have flown Naval aircraft for 16 years. For me the flying was never a
lifelong dream or a "calling," it just happened. I needed a job and I
liked the challenge. I continue to do it today because I feel it is
important to give back to a nation which has given so much to me. I do it
because although I will never be rich, my family will be comfortable. I do
it because many of my friends have left for the airlines and someone has to
do it.

My government has spent millions to train me to fly these multimillion
dollar aircraft. I make about 70,000 dollars a year and after 20 years
will be offered a pension.

I like baseball but think the players make too much money. I am in awe of
firemen and policemen and what they do each day for my community, and like
teachers, they just don't get paid enough.

I respect my elders and always use sir or ma'am when addressing a
stranger. I'm not sure about kids these days but I think that's normal for
every generation.

I voted for George Bush not for his IQ but because I like him. I think I
made a pretty good choice.

I tell you all this because when I come for you, I want you to know me. I
won't be hiding behind a woman or a child. I won't be disguised or
pretending to be something I am not. I will be in a US issue flight suit. I
will be wearing standard US issue flight gear, and I will be flying a Navy
aircraft clearly marked as a US warplane. I wish we could meet up close in
a small room where I could wrap my hands around your throat and slowly
squeeze the life out of you but unfortunately you're hiding in a hole in the
ground so we will have to do this a different way.

I want you to know also that I am very good at what I do. I can put a
2,000 LB weapon through a window from 10,000 feet up. I generally only fly
at night so you may want to start sleeping during the day. I am not eager to
die for my country but I am willing to sacrifice my life to protect it from
animals like you.

I will do everything in my power to ensure no civilians are hurt as I take
aim at you.

My countrymen are a forgiving bunch. Many are already forgetting what you
did on Sept 11th. But I will not forget, and my President will not forget.

I am coming. I hope you know me a little bit better, see you soon, sleep
tight.

Signed,

a US Navy Pilot

Thank you for your dedication to our country, jimp...

...and I want to add for the terrorist: I don't fly multi-million dollar warplanes, but in this multi-level and multi-faceted war against terrorism, if any of you assholes come to my jurisdiction to reek your vile ways, I hope my dog gets to bite the shit out of you and makes you scream...before I take care of you and silence your screams...

Thank God for the honorable

Thank God for honorable men and women who recognize evil when they see it, and are willing to put their lives on the line to oppose it. Thank God for my fellow Americans who stand in the breach and make a difference everyday, risking their lives for our safety. Even though they are prohibited from racial profiling and are expected to be "politically correct", they know the difference between good and evil, politics and life and death, and we owe our lives to them. Thank God for men who will stand up against wrong, and who are as true right as the needle to the pole. Thank God for my fellow Americans. I know you've got my back, and I hope you know I've got yours.

thanks for the service, and doing some good. make those who would kill innocents for not being their religion find it difficult to breeed and prosper.
the world seems to forget, they brought the fight to us first, and they WILL do it again if they get the chance. this nation has the RIGHT to defend itself. many outsiders beleive it is justbecause of oil and crap, but if we really wanted to, we could completely and totally stop buying oil from mideast. we have texas, gulf o' mexico, lousiana, alaska, plenty of oil reserves not even tapped yet. world peace IS a positive for ALL economies, no matter who it is, and these hypocrites are too stupid to see that THEY will be sucked in eventually. it is only a matter of time before the murderers will get the cojones up to do it again. but maybe it will be eiffel tower, or perhaps the palace in england instead. will they then cry "oh let them be" or will they respond like ANY attacked nation should?

as far as intelligence prevailing over stupidity... heh
check the govt schools, 18-24yr old people in usa have hard time finding the usa on a map of the world.
sad. true, but sad.

I am talking about fighting a bunch of people still living in the stone age. And as for our schools I can tell you that if parents paid attention to their children as much as they do TV or their beer, and didn't make it illegal to do anything except kiss the students ass the schools could educate the morons. The average teacher spends 10 or more hours at school and another 4 hours corecting papers at night, and at least one day a weekend doing the same. The staff days or planning days are spent on seminars on how to handle terroists, sue happy parents, raists etc. And for all this the teacher with a Masters degree gets paid less then a grocery clerk.

No offense intended personally Slug.... People bitching about teachers need to walk in their shoes. They have no authority, no ability to disipline the kids, and every irresponsible asshole in the country wanting them to provide daycare instead of an education. When I was in school if you told a teacher to fuck off you got your butt smoked, your parents kicked your ass, you stayed after school etc. Today the kid gets applauded by the class, the teacher laughed at, and the parent telling you to fuck off as well. The other good thing is the idiots that can't find the USA on the map are having children and deciding the standards that teachers are to teach. Don't forget teachers don't even get to pick what teach and because of the brillance of the parents teachers are told it is the law that they present xx number of things or the teacher is in violation. It is not important that the chldren understand it, just that they be exposed to the information. Teacher don't set the requirements, parents do.

That said even the morons in this country have a leg up on the average Middle East Arab soldier. And our technology is light years ahead.

I'm not a teacher, but my daughter is, I paid for her education and frankly besides my regular tax dollars, I buy the school lunches for 30 children every day, and school supplies for over 50. I still believe education is the most important investment we can make. Unfortunately, most of the people I meet they beleive the best way to deal with all of this is to bitch about it amongst themselves and blame it on teachers. Teachers are not perfect, but if all you are given is shit to workwith it is difficult to convert that into something special. But amazingly they do often times.

Hey ZH
Until I read your last paragraph, I was thinking you must have been a teacher in another life. I taught for 15 years, and I couldn't agree more w/what you said, especially the part about walking a mile in a teacher's shoes. When I taught, I believed that even my administrators didn't fully appreciate the challenges presented by the disruptive, disrespectful, and even dangerous students we were expected to manage. At least, the police have guns, handcuffs, and jails. Teachers only have people like you who understand, and appreciate their dedication, and dilemna. Most all teachers went into teaching because they wanted to make a positive difference in the lives of their students. Unfortunately, for too many teachers, today, teaching is more about survival then about altruistic ideals and goals.

my only gripe is that the liberal left insists on throwing more money at schools that are NOT working.

i am not saying that teachers are all to blame. i consider the NEA to be a bigger problem than any group of teachers, the NEA ensures that even the poor teachers have job security, and unless they do something grossly bad, they are left to tenure their years away.

true, i am not a teacher. true i have never been a teacher
however i HAVE attended govt schools for 12 years. i am not blind to the fact that there are good teachers, then there are ones who are indifferent, who are incapable, and some that are plainly too stupid to even attempt teaching.

political pressure and political correctness are ruining govt schools. this is a fact. it is not politically correct to tell a child they are failing. so curves are added to ensure that the max number that can pass will.

and this i can attest to in REAL experience. i have SEEN grade curves used to raise the student scores, while *I* was in school. this was a decade ago.

when i started school, failing was 74%
when i graduated school, failing was 59%
on top of that, even with a 59% being failing, our papers were graded with a curve, ie highest grade was 100% etc. so in some cases, failing dropped below 50% correct.

since i have been out, i have no data. so i am not sure what failing is averaged out anymore. i have heard 50%, but cannot confirm this.

my little brother graduated 3rd in his class with a 3.4 gpa
this was 9 years back.

again i will say, it is not all the teachers fault. nor did i EVER say it was teacher's faults. there ARE a lot of teachers who ARE contributing to this issue. but teachers are more enslaved to the social and political pressures then any other group, because they are in contact with the nation's children. and instead of school being a learning institution, it is now a fashion show and an indoctrination. and it is considered daycare by people who shouldn't have any business raising children in the first place.

somewhere in pa they have made it MANDATORY patriotic observances, every day, students MUST recite pledge, or national anthem. this is not patriotism, it is INDOCTRINATION. Hitler used it. Russia uses it. China uses it.

why do private schools have a higher success rate? for one, the parent is FORCED to take an active interest in how the student performs and acts, as they are PAYING money. this is a big motivator. the student faces expulsion for performance and actions. wheras the public schools waste time with kids who are barely old enough to know any better pointing fingers at each other and saying 'pow pow'
instead they ought to be removing the ones who are disrupting classes. if the class laughs it is because they have been indoctrinated to know that they have no repercussions for their actions. this is a sad state, where someone can be so confident that their action carries no recourse, and if recourse is attempted, all they need to do is say "i felt abused/harassed and was crying out for help" and it is all better for them. vola, instant social-workers intervention, and they are off scott free.
(granted this is extreme, but it IS common)

my little comment above was not meant to say that all teachers are bad and that they all suck, as you apparently took it to mean. it WAS meant to say that our govt schooling system DOES suck. and that is my opinion, based on empirical data collected by many who are MUCH smarter than i am. my personal experience, my dealings with young service members fresh from govt schooling and their pitiful grasp on math, reading, history (what's history?) many of the people couldn't even really WRITE. granted i have messy writing, but it is NOT the bumpy, misshaped writing you see on a 2nd grader's paper, who is trying to learn how to coordinate their hand movements for writing for the first time. people who were high school grads, in case you wondered.
funny when i ask someone if they read, and they look at you like yer an idiot. "why read, there are movies to watch" "reading is for losers" "reading is for nerds"

and i will say once more, i do not blame all teachers. it is society and their "i dont want responsibility for anything" attitude that has sent this country to the sewer as far as knowledge, training, and usefulness. there ARE teachers who perpetuate this. wittingly or unwittingly. there are many many parents who have no clue what 3+3/1 is supposed to be, and their kids are endowed with the same respect for that knowledge as they have.

Slug... my comments were not directed at you specifically, you thread just inspired me a to vent!

The first thing to do is eliminate the Department of Education and start over. The government and parents (we vote for this stuff!)have created a disfunctional monster. I don't know aboust your school district but I swear we have 3 admin people for every teacher. They don't assist the teachers they fight them. We need to go back to teaching the 3 R's reading ritin and rithmitic! Hold parents and students accountable. When I grew up if I were to have failed it would have reflected poorly on my paremnts. Needless to say it didn't happen. Today if a student does poor it is the teachers fault and the kid and parents are victims! Be willing to fail children even if it is bad for their self esteem.

Reading is the key. Nothing else can replace it. And all of the electronic BS in the world can replace a book.

And I will take a moment to brag... My two daughters both graduated from Highschool with 4.0 grade point averages. Validictorians of their respective senior classes. They both graduated from College with 3.9 plus g.p.a.s and one is a teacher and the other is at the top of her class in Vet school now. Public schools with parents that held them accountable, and established high but obtainable expectations. In their cases they exceeded our expectations.

well fellas, I have to agree with my pilot friend, adn althought I do not know this individual he has chosen like me to do what he thinks he has to do, protect his families freedom, and the freedom of our fellow countrymen. I will tell you this, the Iraqi army does have some newer equipment, IE some T-80 and T-72 tanks. but unless they are part of the republican gaurd they will never use these tanks. We on the other hand have 1 tank, and it is not just any tank, but the newest generation M-1 Abrahms. And having seen these tanks on the battlefield first hand..(last night) I have the utmost confiendence in our equipment as opposed theirs. I feel as does my pilot friend, that when push comes to shove, its him or me, and I am going home to my family. I have no doubt over that. To all of the Iraqi soldiers....I heard a quote, by General Patton I think it was that goes something like this....you dont win a war by dying for your country, you win a war by making the other poor bastard die for his.......so I hoep for the Iraqi soldier that alla greets him with open arms......later all (sorry for Rambling, that letter just kinda hits home when you are sitting 20 miles from the Iraq border) Jim
