Almost got ran over by a squid

I went for a ride yesterday since the weather was so fantastic.

The details: residential through street, 25 mph zone, houses and driveways everywhere, intersection every 2 houses. Pine needles and leaves along the parking strip area of the streets.

I live on one of the side streets, requiring a right hand turn. I am going like 20-25, in the right hand portion of my lane, next to where the parking area is. I turn on my right signal and then notice that at my corner the pine needles are spread over a large area in the apex of the turn. Just as I check my left mirror to see if I can swing over into the left hand side of mylane- a squid on a late model gsxR does a stand up wheelie past me, the bike hitting the rev limiter just after he passes. The asshole was using the left hand portion of my lane I end up braking to about 5 mph and going around the corner through the needles, keeping the bike standing upright.

The jerk was wearing tennis shoes, faded blue jeans, and a nylon ski jacket type coat. Typical squid wear. He did have a helmet cuz we are a helmet state, otherwise the jerk most likely wouldnt have had that gear either.

If he had done this out on the road, not at an intersection, I might have been impressed with his proficiency with the wheely. Where he did do it almost took me and him out, pissed off the neighbor raking his yard, and giving me a black eye with the neighborhood folks.(I live 5 houses down the street from the intersection) I stopped and went back and told the neighbor I had no idea who the asshole was, that we was not one of my ridng buddies and I hope he runs that Suzuki into one of the big pine trees lining the road.

Squids are not good for our sport. Posers, hell who cares about them.

we have alot of those guys down in Savannah GA a whole club of them...was out riding with a few buddies one night and they pulled us all over....started reading us the riot act...seems that some people called the cops on their cell phones about some squids riding all crazy, we were the first bikes they came across. after sitting there listening to him run his mouth on and on, a lady in a car stopped and told him that we were the wrong group of bikes. He was very sorry for the inconvience and let us go. seen him about and hour later, as he was writing tickets too all of them. hey Came out to the island and found us at the sandwhich shop we were eating at and told us he found them, saw them riding wheelies and tickets all of them. ..........It is so easy, for so few, to mess things up for so many....

What would ya's consider the correct way to pass in the same lane? I make sure i'm in his/her left mirror, signal, and usually they move over a little to the right. If not,I go slowly by,a little beep of the horn.
I surely don't want to spook someone who's just out there clearin' their head of a bad day at work. We've all been there at least once, right?

Jeff

Pass like a Car - in your own lane.

When I pass on my 12...turn the appropiate blinker on for a good 3-4 blinks so they know the 12 experience is about to be had, then gracefully change lanes. Repeat as necessary....make sure there in your rear view mirror before heading back into the lane, and leave your blinker on as you do it all.

The nicer you are out there, the more courteous you are out there, I think prevents some punks from using those cell phones and calling you in for going too fast or what they might feel is wreckless driving.

But, you are passing them not in their own lane.

For a nano-second I though run the arse down and give him some skoolin, then I thought dam that is stupid, what surely would have been a hi speed chase on pine needles through my neighbor hood and show the neighbors I am as big a dick head as the squid. Then I thought - maturity and damage control. Stop and talk to the guy in his yard, go home park the bike and figure the squid will get his all in due time. I would rather not have the neighbors calling the cops on me and friends when we leave for an early morning ride waking them up with our bikes

Ozzy, just get a big stick and hang out behind that big tree. Next time he comes by, run out there and poke it in his front wheel. Now you'll have a chance to chat with him for a while.
