reliable stroke for 12,200 rpm?

I have a 1290 and thinking about stroking it, what length stroke would be reliable reving to 12,200?
Not raced...

lotsa 4.6, even 5.0mm strokers live for a long, long time.
"reliable" is a relative term, every performance mod cuts down on reliability.

The first thought that comes to my mind is:

If you are not going to race it, why rev the piss out of it?

One reason is I LOVE hearing that wail!!
The second reason...
One of these days I want to go to Maxton and believe having the extra revs while gearing up (higher numerically) should help get a couple of MPH's.
The final reason
I LOVE the wail!!!

4mm should be plenty safe(if done right) and lots of extra tq. my current build plan is to add the 4mm to my 1287 (makes a 1380) and rev it to 12700
12200 is nothing for Karl , 12900 starts running into issues with valve float with BIG cams IIRC

Yep, and bending valves. Pistons don't much like hi rpm either.

12,400-ish seems OK, maybe...

if you wanna "hear it wail" (and I do too), do not stroke it unless you just LOVE pulling the motor out.

capt, do you build yr own motors??

before you go to maxton with sort of short gearing to rev the engine higher make sure on a dyno what your power range looks like to get a idea if you can give it a try and pull it off. i know dynos will not simulate real workd loads and ram air should fill in some lack of torque at the higher rpms but if it falls off at 11,500 than no benifit to go to 12,200. you will have lots of fun figureing it out though i bet.

that's easy. The zx12r has a very small 55.4 mm stroke. This makes it only 0.4mm larger than a zx10r. I have my rev limiter set to 12,200 and bang it easily without damate. Stay under 4300 fps.

supra

btw where do you make peak horsepower?

I had my 04 ecu modified by Dave O for 12,200redline , peak power is made at 11,700 and then flattens.
